🎮 : a/n - sorry for dying for a month... i've been very busy but hey, i've got something out. fun fact, this is a series, and this just act one out of the four acts... sadly, there will be a large time gap due to personal stuff, but i hope it'll be sooner than anyone expects.
a notification popped up on your phone. half-awake, you reached for it and opened discord to see who was texting you at this time. it was quite early for someone like you, who would sleep through the whole day and wake up in the afternoon.
sol_chwe:
“yo y/n, you up for another game?”
it was your online boy best friend, vernon, or user sol_chwe. he was asking you if you could play another round of PHIGHTING! with him. seriously, after you two already had a 3 hour session of constant fighting? it was getting exhausting at this rate.
but, why would you ever deny? it was your favourite game, in fact, the only game that you enjoyed on roblox other than nullscape. plus, last round he didn’t even let you play your main—which was vinestaff of course.
you typed back a quick reply, hoping that it would satisfy your friend and his addiction to gaming until his back began to look like a shrimp.

“yeah sure. js wait up for a bit while i boot up my pc alr?”
the message was immediately seen. is this guy always chronically online or what? not your business. it’s not your life and that’s totally acceptable.
you logged onto roblox and hopped into a public server. thankfully, your internet wasn’t as slow as usual, so it would be easier for you to aim and heal your teammates. you chose vinestaff and waited in the lobby for vernon to join.
sol_chwe joined you.
he entered the game as hyperlaser and went over to zuka to join a game. when he disappeared, a discord notification appeared on your screen. you hastily checked it.
sol_chwe:
“the code is _ _ _ _”
perfect, exactly as you wished he would tell you. you entered the join code and on time, was there for the first round.
this session took up much longer than you expected.
originally, you had thought for 2 hours. it ended up being a total of 4 hours on your obs recording. after saying goodbye to vernon in dms, you couldn’t help but want to relax.
standing up from your computer, you jumped into bed and opened your phone. surprise, a new going seventeen episode! just the perfect video you needed to watch after a long day of gaming and being unemployed.
as you watched, some thoughts began to stir in your mind. one of the members, vernon, who was also your bias, shared a name with your friend! how did you never notice that? it’s crazy, isn’t it…
wait a minute, what if he WAS vernon?
no, maybe your mind is just making things up to be more delusional. you can’t be friends with an idol without knowing it. that would be wild.
on the other side of the world...
vernon finished gaming and went to practice a dance with his members to get some form of exercise. chan, obviously, was the first one to start nagging him for his constant internet usage despite being pretty chronically offline.
“hyung, you’ve been on your pc WAY more than usual. is it because of someone? or…” chan dragged his sentence, wanting to get a reaction from vernon. vernon just stared at him, letting out a sigh.
“games. is it not obvious? and no, it’s not because of someone chan. get a grip,” he replied a bit coldly. this prompted chan to apologize with an awkward chuckle and try to lighten up the mood.
the day went well at least. practice was smooth and everyone cheered each other on while doing so.
however, vernon couldn’t keep getting the girl out of his mind. she had a charm that drew him in. it was nothing like he’d imagine. was he really falling for a person he doesn’t know? and as an idol too? he can’t let that happen.
the two of you had gotten closer over the multiple gaming sessions which were held. but one thing seemed to run around in the expanding mind of yours.
what if you two had a voice call? both of you were extremely comfortable with each other, even making stupid inside jokes that no one would have a single idea about. you decide to propose this idea to vernon.

“hey dude. what about we vc one day? i think it’d be fun”
vernon was online. that memorable “vernon is typing…” appeared on your screen. you stared at it intently, hoping for an answer that could satisfy the growing desire in your heart. you read the message sent and jumped in excitement.
sol_chwe:
“if you want, i could call you right now?”
you immediately reacted with a thumbs up. this gave the signal for vernon to call you. and now, it would be the time that your thoughts would be confirmed; was he really THE vernon hansol chwe from seventeen or not? you hesitantly answered the call and started talking.
“hey? is this vernon?” you asked hesitantly, your voice coming out in a quieter volume than expected.
vernon hadn’t opened his microphone yet, which might have meant he was getting his headphones. you patiently waited, keeping your eyes on vernon’s microphone icon. and then, he opened it.
“hey. it’s me, yup. this is… interesting,” he murmured. you heard some shifting from his side, possibly him moving around in his chair or someone else walking near him without realizing their sounds went through.
you didn’t care about that though. his voice was so familiar.
“…you sound really familiar to me…” you muttered to him. he responded with a chuckle, knowing that you would connect dots regardless of whether he told the truth or not.
after a brief moment of silence, he decided to be straightforward.
“yeah, because i am vernon. the vernon from seventeen,” he confirmed in a very “matter-of-fact” tone.
you were right, but it still threw you off guard. you, being friends with an idol, and you had NO idea about it too! how oblivious are you? or maybe he was just very secretive. you ended up freaking out on voice call.
“OH MY FUCKING GOD??? HOW THE FUCK DID I NOT REALIZE??? I mean, YOUR NAMES ARE THE SAME TOO!!!”
you screamed out, genuinely tweaking in your chair as you spun around and tried to think of every small thing that could’ve let you knew it was him.
vernon was laughing as he listened to your chaos as you started to rant about how you should’ve known earlier and so on. it was a bit endearing to him in a way, hearing your voice go up and down like a rollercoaster.
the call took about 3 hours, as the two of you caught each other up on recent events and just had a fun time talking about whatever came up in your minds.
you’d probably put it on your list of “most favourite calls in a lifetime”, maybe even above the one you had with your best friend!
in all honesty, you didn’t even want to end the call. you wanted to continue but vernon had some important stuff to do so he had to excuse himself. you said goodbye in a slightly sad tone, which he seemed to catch on to.
“oh c’mon, we can talk later, no? hey, how about we have a meet up in the future?” he suggested, the spin of his chair echoing through his microphone.
you lit up in interest and immediately agreed. “of course! why would i disagree?” you replied enthusiastically.
“perfect, then we could discuss a time and place later, see ya,” he ended the call.
it seemed to be urgent but you didn’t mind. you had a long day ahead of you too and a future hang out that you were definitely looking forward to.
