Note: So this was requested a while back by @jazzforthecaptain, sorry it took me so long to finish this little thing. I hope you like it 

Jack is so used to playing human shield that he forgets that he still has his mortal moments. Running with an angel reminds him of this. “Okay maybe following that Malk to an ice planet without thinking was a bad idea,” he says to Castiel trying not to shiver. 

It was supposed to be a simple adventure to collect a bounty and then a nice dinner at a bar Jack knew not far from the drop site. Now they were trapped in a cave, on an ice planet Jack couldn’t remember the name of and Jack was seriously close to dying of frostbite. 

Castiel gave his lover a concerned look. “This isn’t your fault,” he says dryly. Jack chuckles, the sound rough and low as he fights to keep himself warm. “I decided we should take the bounty, so yeah it kind of is,” he replies. 

The angel frowns and kneels down looking Jack over. After a moment, Castiel settles next to Jack and wraps his arms and by extension his wings around the immortal. “We will figure it out,” he says, his tone kind and gentle. “We always do.”

After a misunderstanding, Cas starts delightedly discussing his life as an angel and Jack listens on with interest even if he doesnt believe what Cas is saying is true.

Sam and Dean start to pull Cas away but Jack smiles at him, asking how Jack is going to talk to him again. Cas just smiles and says a prayer always works before Jack convinces Cas to take his number.

And then later Sam, Dean, and Cas are in the Impala, but Cas is blushing and shifting about like crazy in the back seat, obviously uncomfortable, before pulling out his phone and dialing a number.

"Jack-- Jack, your prayers are becoming highly inappropriate...

"You want evidence? I, I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to discuss this sort of thing while the presence of other 'dudes'...

This story is the result of a sweet gem of a scene that @merindab presented me with on a Sunday morning and gave me carte blanche to go wild on the edits. The scene is inspired by this TikTok video of a pair of swing dancers improv-ing a routine on the spot. She graciously let me color inside her outline, we spent the day trading edits, and the result was The Jumble Jive.

Captain Jack Harkness appreciates the unpredictability of humans and dance. This evening, the ballroom proves even more unpredictable than usual.

You made my day with this.

That work is the world I lived in and was haunted by for years. There's so much of myself woven into that story. It's the love letter I wrote to Castiel, and it's also a love letter to my partner. Some of that story was written through tough parts of my life, and also through some of the best, and it almost took a decade to finish.
