Harley Quinn Season 2 Premiere Review: Welcome To New Gotham
Harley Quinn has officially come back swinging with a darker, more sinister tone, and now bearing a stable coherent narrative that will unfold over the course of another 13 episodes.
Something the first season was struggling to do in the direction and pace of the series.
Season one did a really good job of building up this new universe of the iconic DC comic characters.
The main theme of season one was something that Birds Of Prey tried to follow which was how would Harley Quinn react and live with the safety blanket of the Joker.
Now in season two, and Gotham city up for the taking will Harley achieve what she always wanted or will she let her fear conqueror her from taking her rightful place as the HBIC of the city always in turmoil. Unfortunately, not everything is sunshine and rainbows because of the small scale version of a no-mans-land scenario.
In addition to the war-torn narrative of Harley having her independence but not knowing what to do with it.
Season 2 feels fresh because of the ingenuity of villains, and the fresh take of such icons as Mr. Freeze, and Two-Face, or even the likes of Cat-woman who will appear later on down the line in the season.
Im not trying to say too much without diving into spoiler territory, but one tidbit I will say Harley Quinn is a show that is built upon the foundation of smart writing, and the appeal of knowing what the audience wants, and how to push the right domino’s and still keep the flair of surprises feel unique and genuine.
In closing do yourself a favor, and watch the satirical dark comedy of Harley Quinn while you’re in lock-down and quarantine.
Especially with the content and pacing of 14 episodes officially released, but if season 1 didn’t pull you in then season 2 will do the same.
All I can say is, Harley Quinn may feel similar to Birds Of Prey, but they are both drastically different in almost everything aspect of the word.
However, both are great platforms to expand the identity and lore of these iconic characters torn from the pages, and panels drawn from years before.
Officially, one down and twelve to go. The verdict is in 9/10 Harley Quinn is back with a darkly humorous twist that will keep me guessing about what will occur next. Remember there is only one way, which is to tune in every Friday on DC Universe.
