I built this table for a client before I went to Japan in December. It was super fun to build, so much joinery! The table top is a mitered frame and panel with a dovetailed baton on the bottom for structural integrity of the large panel. The feet are tenoned into planks, which are in turn dadoed into the table top frame. I hand planed the whole thing, as per usual, and also planed the legs and stretchers round. The legs look and feel very nice because of the facets left by the straight bladed kanna. Also, I don’t own a lathe 😂.

Fitting and installing of the mitered boards. They have a 5mm spline in the miter to prevent the boards from warping at the join. They are not glued to allow a bit of movement but not in the vertical plane. The boards were screwed from the bottom of the underconstruction. All surfaces, even the bottom, were also handplaned.

Update: One side of the “windows” between the dining room and living room is almost finished. Applied some Howard Feed & Wax tonight. All that’s left is to nail off everything with the rose head cut nails from Tremont Nail Company. Now I’ve just got to mill up the casing trim for the living room side! Hopefully with my time off for the holidays I’ll get it milled up, stained, finished, and installed. Yep, finally finished the window install in the boys room. Casing and trim is up and finished. Final finish was Howard Feed & Wax #howardfeednwax. I really love this finish! Thanks to @woodbywright James Wright for featuring this on his YouTube channel. Now, some may say that this is just a polish to be applied over a finish. Well, I say whatever floats your boat. It’s basically orange oil and beeswax. Traditional furniture, well working class furniture at least, was finished with sometimes only a coating of beeswax. It’s gonna need reapplication over time, but it’s relatively safe (I don’t have to wear a level A chem suit to apply it) and it smells great! It's doesn't look like much right now but this splayed maple will become another picture frame for a art piece created by @paultornow A beautiful little number that needed the perfect frame. #handplaned and finished with a light stain to see the natural coloring, I hope my work does Paul's justice. :) #woodworking #handplane # (at Kronenwetter, Wisconsin)
