The next pair step up to fight, let's meet them!
Hala does double duty as both a member of the Alola Elite Four, and also the kahuna of Melemele Island! But despite his age, he's able to handle both just fine- he's as fit as the Fighting types he uses! With his ace Crabominable by his side, he provides players of Sun and Moon with a challenging battle before they can become the Alola region's first champion- but only Sun and Moon players. In the alternate reality of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Hala's spot is taken by Molayne. Hala also has a family connection with one of the major characters in the game- the player's rival Hau! And on top of all of that, Hau is the one to give the player their starter Pokémon in Sun and Moon as well. He's a big guy with a big part to play, can he make a big splash in the tournament?
Going up against him is Shauntal, the literal Ghost writer! With the spooky Ghost type by her side, this literary trainer uses her battles with others as inspiration for her work. Not only that, but Shauntal also writes about other well known trainers across the Pokémon series- referencing other Elite Four members, Gym Leaders, and even Looker in her potential pre-battle dialogue. Shauntal, like the other Generation 5 Elite Four members, has had her design inspirations explained in interviews, where it was revealed she was inspired by black cats. Between that and her outfit, she definitely has a classy, if gothic, feel about her, making her partner Chandelure a perfect pick! Shauntal is also one of the rare trainers in the series who we clearly see which hand she favours- Shauntal's a lefty! She's got a lot of knowledge and style, will she be able to make a statement in the tournament?
