People who see Julien and Octis’s relationship as brotherly are unknowable to me because they’re teaming with romantic tropes. “Why Do You Care!?” Versus Pretending Not To Care and You’re Going To Survive Even If It Means Throwing You Over My Shoulder and I’m Not Taking My Eyes Off Of You, not to mention all the other tiny little things that would most likely read as romantic if the couple was heterosexual and/or had more overt sexual tension.
Hal's final role isn't simply becoming the face of the revolution, it's becoming something larger than himself. That's what makes his story so heartbreaking. Every role has stripped away another piece of Halandil Fang until the symbol risks swallowing the man whole. The tragedy is that the symbol grows stronger while the man quietly disappears. And I can't help but wonder if his final fight won't be for the revolution… but for himself.
