If I had a nickel for every time my favourite ai character in a piece of media sung daisy bell I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
The robot/AI narrative is something I feel I and a lot of other Neurodivergent people inherently relate to and care for a lot.
The robot/AI narrative often shows a charcater ‘learning how to be human’ which, gonna be honest, we all had to learn. It didint come natural to act the same as other people.
More often then not, the plots of media that include robots are them vs humans, drawing another example of relateabilty. Often, growing up ND, it’s common to feel like your peers and adults are against you due to again, not understanding how others act.
This post is brought to you by: lil Hal, Hal 9000, Peridot, 9, Iron giant, and Astro Boy.
hal 9000 (hes the one w/ an actual body, right?) eats candy corn like he needs it to fucking live. its. ridiculous. so much candy corn. so much fucking candy corn. li'l hal, on the other hand, hates halloween because he cant participate/isnt contacted by his friends as much because theyre all out doing things! hes lonely
uhhhh i mean that depends on how you define body because technically depending on a lot of things, he both never had one and always had one? but yeah he’s a little candy corn gremlin and hal gets roxy to use washable paint to make him red so he can be the shades from that one anime but dirk hates it because he can’t see for shit and it’s COLD hal this is the last time i’m doing anything like this for you again
Tau reminds me of HAL 9000 a little bit and I love that ♡

Ugh. I give up.
I know I’ve seen that GLaDOS narrative vs Hal narrative post somewhere. And I’ve reblogged it a bunch of times.
The gist goes that Hal was created in a time when people were not used to computers and automated voices at all - that he was creepy because he was automated, with only the slightest emotional indicators and reactions. That he was sentient but programmed. A machine that could think.
But GLaDOS was created in a time where we’re all used to automated voices telling us things and giving us directions - like GPS and the automated phone systems for getting through to insurance and customer support. And she was creepy because you get the sense that she’s alive in there, with all those emotions and violent reactions.
[On a side note, I think SHODAN hits the creepy factor on both those same elements because she starts System Shock like Hal - automated, controlled by her programming, and an administrative AI designed to support the humans. But she gets set free, and becomes increasingly more chaotic...and in the end, more human in her god complex and its associated behaviors. It’s just...interesting to me.]
2001 a Space Odyssey
Ok, so I knocked out 2/3 of 2001 a Space Odyssey so far and I never realized how incredibly stupid the astronauts are. The AI HAL is obviously going rampant way before anybody dies. Example: Hal says a part of communications is about to break, they take it apart, it works fine, they replace the part anyway for good measure, ground control says it may be Hal that's buggy. Next day Hal says the replacement part is gonna break, the call ground control, ground control is in the middle of telling them to turn off Hal when communications break down. Rather than seeing that as hella fishy they decide that that coincidence just proved Hal was right and they should trust him implicitly... morons...
