Now in this video, Calculus, Tintin and Haddock go to visit an old friend of Calculus’ whom he had gone to school with. The two are overjoyed to see each other and greet each other with a hearty embrace, in which their faces come quite close together. The friend, Hercule, it tall, dark haired, and broad shouldered. Much more so than the captain. This tells us two things: 1) Calculus has a type and 2) it is entirely possible that Haddock would feel threatened by this taller, smarter version of himself whom Calculus is apparently so close with.

But it is not only him who appears threatened, because upon being introduced to Haddock, Hercule shakes his hand and squeezes hard enough to make Haddock wince, as though to assert dominance. He greets Tintin normally.
