Some potentially interesting world building I’ve been chewing on for a bit comes from one of my favorite professors I ever had. He was the head of my history department and my thesis mentor, your quintessential absent minded professor who was once a hippie (and still is).
He taught ancient religions. Something he said stuck with me- that gods of old weren’t just gods of their specific domains, they were gods of their specific location. That’s why we have terms like “the gods of Canaan” or why we see gods of specific lakes and rivers in various mythologies worldwide.
Applying this logic to love and deepspace would be FASCINATING. And logically, it fits with Rafayel’s story. He’s the god of Lemuria, Lemurians, and thus has dominion over their homeland. While his abilities can be held on land he is literally a fish out of water relying on his cunning instead of his homeland.
And knowing that Zayne has ties to divinity as well, we could see some very interesting face offs in theory. MC also has clear ties to divinity, likely ties to various mythologies around mother/creation goddesses (Gaia, Rhea, Nut, Isis, and Ninhursag all come to mind) so that could be interesting. Even in Zayne’s latest myth MC is specifically referred to as the goddess of Niava, a goddess of a specific location.
All this to say it would be fascinating to see how Rafayel reacts to mentions of deities. Does he acknowledge them as stories to humans? Does he scoff or just ignore it? Does he acknowledge their power when they’re older than him??? Again, first thing that comes to mind would be his thoughts on the Sumerian Enki since he’s the Sumerian god of freshwater and merfolk! Some interesting thoughts to chew on
