Our Sunday Gunday Featured Firearm is the Eqyptian Maadi AK47 was manufactured by the Maadi Company for Engineering Industries in Cairo, Egypt. The Maadi is one of the closest copies of the original Russian AKM because Russia helped Egypt build their small arms industry in the 1950s. These rifles generally come with laminated handguards and buttstocks reinforced with steel pins. The Maadi is a sturdy and ultra-dependable rifle, and this particular specimen currently resides in the Brownells Gun Tech Armory. Anyone else have one of these?

Gun Grab of the Week – FAL -The Fabrique Nationale Fusil Automatique Léger or FN FAL for short translates to the "Light Automatic Rifle", and was adopted in 1954 by nearly all NATO forces with the notable exception of the United States. However, with over 2 million examples produced, this is still arguably one of the most prevalent military firearms ever built. This rifle is a semi auto from the Guntech gun library here at Brownells and was assembled from a parts kit mounted to a D.S. Arms receiver. Despite the rise of the AR-308 platform and the dominance of the M14/M1A design, the FAL still has a large, devoted following and the prices of these rifles reflect that. It may be an older design, but it combines light weight with manageable recoil and superb accuracy. Little wonder then why those who use them swear by them and feel little need to modernize.

How fortuitous for the government. The arrests are giving Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and other opponents of gun rights, a perfect excuse to portray all gun owners as mouth breathing, racist hicks who can't be trusted to carry guns anywhere. Northam successfully fought off a challenge to his firearms ban in the state capitol in advance of Monday's rally. Several gun rights groups had sued the governor, looking to overturn the ban. The Virginia Senate passed three more gun control bills on Friday with more to come. It should rile up the crowd at the rally even more. Northam and other gun rights opponents think that having 100,000 people rallying for gun rights -- with many of them armed -- will lead to violence. Northam declared a "state of emergency" -- as if the very presence of several thousand armed citizens is a threat. What would Northam have done 250 years ago at a militia muster? Northam and many other Democrats are terrified of guns. Even an unloaded weapon triggered a couple of local Democrats in Portsmouth, VA. <A city official in Virginia showed support for the Second Amendment earlier this week by bringing an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle to a city council meeting.
