Nalini says:
“When I started, Angel’s Blood was meant to be a one off. It was meant to be this one book that I wrote. Completely one book. So I never wrote the secondary characters as anything but to be in that one book, and so who I thought they were then is not who they’ve become. It’s been this learning curve for me, especially with Illium and Aodhan.
When we began - when we first see them interacting - I think it’s very clear that Aodhan is the damaged one and Illium is the stronger one. As it’s gone on, I feel like particularly in this latest book and the book before it, it’s becoming more clear that Illium is actually the more vulnerable one and Aodhan is starting to find his strength. So their relationship is the definition of that Facebook status, you know: ‘it’s complicated’.
So for me, it’s complicated as well. I’m very open to wherever they’re going to take me, but I’m very wary of predicting it at all because I have been surprised multiple times through this series. I could not have predicted that vulnerability in Illium that we’re seeing. So, I guess, my answer is that the book for either character - both characters, however it may be - will come when they’re ready, and there is a hint to what’s happening in the end of Archangel’s Sun and that is all I’m going to say. The end.”
