We could use your help!
If you support the groundbreaking, inclusive, affirming, feminist, comprehensive, young-people-centered, queer sex ed for all we've provided for 25+ years to over 90 million people, please help us raise the $15K we need to pay our bills in 2024, or become one of 250 new donors we need for 2025! You can do that at Scarleteen.com/contribute or by heading to our site and clicking āPitch-InāÆā. š If youāre already donating (thank you!) please consider increasing your monthly amount, if you can, even a little bit. Weāll count any increases we get towards our two goals! You can do that by clicking 'Manage Your Donation' in your latest donation receipt. If you canāt donate yourself, can you tell your friends, family and followers who we are, why you value our work and ask them if theyād be willing to donate? You can share this post and the link above, but using your own words is the most effective! Despite leading the way in SRE online from the 1990s on, and always making sure young people have access to good information even when it is suppressed elsewhere in their lives, we remain underfunded, including funding to pay our staff a fair, living wage. We need to meet this $15K goal to fund our most basic needs and our tightest budget. If you can help us do that, we can focus on providing awesome SRE, growing, improving and kicking-ass, and finding more funding for 2025. Thank you! ā¤ļø

ok ok iāve seen a bunch of different bad father Bruce and evil Talia hcs and AUs and i raise yāall: evil/bad grandparent Alfred but only with Dick. Like Alfred is a British guy who was in the SAS and has spent the better part of his time as a butler for the ultra-wealthy Wayne family. Then itās just him and Bruce for a long time. Then Dick comes along, as Bruceās ward, and the kid is a little gremlin. Heās constantly throwing tantrums, breaking chandeliers, he never eats the food Alfred makes, he screams a lot, and heās not very appreciative of where he ended up. In front of Bruce, Alfred is always professional. But when itās just Alfred and Dick? Alfred constantly tells Dick what a brat he is, threatens that Bruce will throw him out if he doesnāt behave, tells him his parents should be ashamed of how they raised him, and says a bunch of other fucked up shit. He tells Dick that if Dick were to tell Bruce how Alfred treats him, Bruce wouldnāt believe him. It completely fucks up Dickās emotional regulation because he swings between picking fights with Bruce (to see if heāll really throw him out) to clinging onto him for long periods of time to hiding away in his room and not talking or eating. It seems like no matter how much Bruce tries to comfort him, nothing works. And all the while, Alfred is subtly suggesting that Bruce be harsher and harsher and harsher with Dick. So Bruce starts to get harsher and meaner, thinking that this is what Dick needs. It doesnāt work, and eventually, by Alfredās suggestion, he takes Robin away. Dick canāt it anymore and leaves, but he still doesnāt tell anyone about how Alfred treated him.
Then Jason comes along, and Dick is worried that Alfred will treat him the same way. He tries to bring it up subtly in conversation, but it seems like Dick has nothing to worry about. So Dick goes to Alfred to threaten him, but Alfred tells him that itās not necessary because Jason is āactually a good kidā and that he and Alfred have long talks about literature. Dick leaves feeling hollowed out. Maybe it really was his fault, if Alfred hadnāt treated anyone else like that. After all, the man had raised Bruce and Bruce had never said or done anything that indicated Alfred treated him poorly.
Then Bruce just keeps getting more and more children, and with each child the idea is reinforced in Dickās head that itās fault for being such a bad child. He still has poor emotional regulation, and swings between isolating himself and clinging on too tightly to his family. It doesnāt help that Alfred is constantly whispering in his ear that the family is better off without him. Then Damian comes along, and he acts so much like Dick used to that Dick is terrified for him, but he knows thereās not much he can do so he just keeps an eye on the situation.
When Bruce dies, one of the first things Dick does is fire Alfred. Everyone is furious with him, especially since Dick wonāt explain his reasoning. All Dick manages to say kind defense of himself is that Bruceās will states that heās in charge. Alfred goes back to England and dies shortly after. It splinters the family even more. But Dick doesnāt really care, because one evening after patrol, months after Alfred died, Damian begins to softly recall the harsh words that Alfred spoken to him in private. Dick knows he made the right choice, he just wishes he couldāve spared Damian the pain sooner. Dick begins to open up to Damian about the harshness Alfred bestowed upon him as well.
Then Bruce comes back, and heās not just furious, heās enraged. He starts screaming at Dick, about how he could ever do this, about how Alfred was nothing but kind to him, and about how maybe Alfred was right and Dick was a bad kid. Dick is shaking like a leaf, his worst fears being confirmed in front of his entire family, and he still doesnāt know how to defend himself from this. He knows Bruce is grieving and upset, but all he can hear are Alfredās cruel words, telling him that Bruce hates him, that heāll kick him out of the family, that heāll beat the shit out of Dick. So when Bruce takes an angry step forward, Dick flinches back hard, falling to the floor of the cave, trembling and on the verge of hyperventilating. Itās enough to shake Bruce out of his anger and grief, fear and confusion filling him as he takes in the scene in front of him. He had never hit Dick before, though he may have been harsh with him verbally. He doesnāt understand why Dick would be so full of fear, so certain that Bruce would hit him. He doesnāt understand anything about the way Dick is behaving, really. Everyone is looking a bit incredulous at the sight in front of them, which breaks Bruce out of his stupor. He takes a small, softer step forward, reaching out to try and comfort Dick, but before he can, a small katana blocks his path.
Fuck you dude Iām crying and I have a meeting in like 10 mins (I mean this in the best way possible this prompt is absolutely deliciously angsty)
I want to see Damian admitting to Dick in the tiniest, most nervous voice Dick has ever heard from him about how, āPennyworth said Father would never have kept me if I wasnāt his blood.ā I want Dick to damn near have a nervous breakdown, because heād hoped and prayed that Alfred never treated the other kids like how he was treated. I want him to hug Damian so tight and tell him in hushed whispers that Alfred was wrong, that Bruce loved him, that Dick loves him so so much and would never ever get rid of him no matter what.
I want Dick to be so protective of Damian after he finds out. I want Dick to reassure Damian that Alfred was the problem, that Alfred treated Dick just the same when he was younger, had still treated him the same even when Dick became an adult. I want Damian to cling to Dick because heās the only one who understands, because the others were all wrapped around Alfredās finger.
When Bruce comes back and Dick falls to the floor, so sure heās about to get the shit beaten out of him, I want Damian to stand between them. I want Damian to slip up and say in a strangled, devastated voice that Pennyworth was right, that no one in this family loved him or Dick, but Damian isnāt going to let them hurt his Batman.
I want Dick to sit up so fast and tug Damian away and hug him so tight and whisper no, no, thatās not true, thatās not what was happening, Dick was just startled thatās all but please donāt you remember everything we talked about? Itās alright, Dami, everythingās alright. And everyone is so confused because what are they taking about, why are they both so upset, whatās going on?
But Damian is only 11 and heās upset and Dick has been trying his best to let Damian know heās allowed to show his emotions, so even though heās not actively crying, the tears in his eyes are making Dickās heart break. Because Damian may as well be sobbing. And he hugs him so tight and just keeps whispering reassurances to him, telling him itās alright, smoothing back his hair.
āIām glad heās dead!ā Damian huffs into Dickās shoulder. And itās muffled and Damianās voice is thick, but everyone hears it. They all bristle, but Dick doesnāt react at all.
āI know,ā Dick whispers. āI know. Itās alright.ā
āDonāt leave me here!ā Damian begs. āDonāt leave me with them! They donāt understand!ā
āIām not leaving you,ā Dick tells him. āIām not going anywhere. Do you want to go get ice cream? We can go get ice cream.ā
āThis discussion is not over!ā Bruce barks, because heās still livid, but now heās confused on top of it.
āIt is for now,ā Dick says, his tone firm. āWeāre leaving. Weāre going to go and calm down. I suggest you all do the same.ā
Dick is quick to get Damian away from all of them, but the rest of the family is still in shock.
āWhat do we not understand?ā Tim asks slowly. When everyone turns to look at him, he raises an eyebrow at their baffled expressions. āDamian said we didnāt understand. What is it we donāt understand?ā
They all know it has something to do with Alfred, but none of them can figure it out.
Maybe Dick and Damian will explain it to them. Maybe they never will. But it leaves a divide between them for a long time either way.

sometimes i remember the precious baby angel tees and have to sit and stare at a wall for a minute. why did they even have them? were they a gag gift from a friend? a mistaken purchase by phil (didn't see the words FITTED and CROPPED in the listing)? an ironic purchase by dan ("aww phil look it's you wait they have it in black")? did they wear them just the once for the video and instagram post? sometimes casually around the house? in public?
One of the arguments I keep seeing in favor of the finale, that really baffles me:
"Everything was already erased from the Book of Life! There was nothing they could've done to bring everyone back BESIDES starting a new universe!"
Um...
Except God literally offers to press the "undo" button and bring back the universe exactly as it was before.
I'm genuinely confused why many finale-likers act as if this argument is some kind of gotcha that proves there was "no other way it could have ended!"
As far as the show ever delved into its theology, we were given no reason to think this version of God is limited in her power. She's the omnipotent creator of the universe. She can do literally anything she wants, as far as we know.
God is literally the AUTHOR of the Book of Life. Any power it holds is because she says so. The Book itself doesn't have some greater authority over its Author. The pages being missing shouldn't be a problem for her, since she's the one that wrote them in the first place, right??
So....if she decided to hit the undo button on earth's destruction, why WOULDN'T that have worked? Why are people acting like that wasn't an option, like the Book is more powerful than God herself? Since when??
Now, just because God CAN do something doesn't automatically mean that she wants to.
This is how I always understood the "free will" conundrum: she COULD make her creatures into mindless robots that do everything she says, but where's the fun in that? She'd rather give them choices, and see what they make of them.
How could angels have ever questioned God's plan and rebelled in the first place, if they never had free will?
Good Omens God in S1 and S2 seemed to take a very Deist, hands-off approach to her creation after putting all the parts in motion. And i really wish that was how it had stayed, because the way GO3 backtracked on that characterization felt really out of left field to me.
I wonder if you have any thoughts to add, @iforgiveyouprime?
