Griffyn was a member of the royal guard before becoming Princess Pirlipat's personal guard after saving her from an assassination attempt. Neither were ecstatic about the arrangement, because the princess had a reputation of being incredibly snooty and entitled and let's just say Griffyn didn't fit into "high society" to put in nicely. The first thing Pirlipat does is makes sure Griffyn gets an entirely new look (as seen above.) But as time goes on, they learn to get along and appreciate each other and they become partners in crime (and later partners in life.) Piriplat shares her real name, April, and includes Griffyn in her secret forays outside the castle and Griffyn shows her they're softer side and teaches her how to fight.

They both survive the fall of the castle by virtue of not in being in the castle at the time, but they witness the destruction from a distance. April decides to start a village for doll kingdom refugees in the wild forest called Phoenyx. She and Griffyn act as rulers and protectors for the settlement. (Their official marriage was a very exciting time for Phoenyx.) Alexandre eventually finds the village, and while declining the offer of residency, still helps out when he can during his travels. Either by bringing needed supplies or refugees looking for sanctuary.

(It's on one of these trips where Alexandre finds Pine but that's a different plot point.)
