working on a triangle-based map grid to try and work around the problems hex and square grids have, which I'll use for Tales From The Core :) the idea is to use a triangle grid but have the characters occupy a hexagon of space (6 triangles) like so:
then, for movement, you spend one movement (1M) and position your character wherever you want to within the highlighted radius. Two movement (2M) would let you move anywhere within the 2M radius.
these are all possible movements you can do with this system, the yellowish ones costing 1M while the fully green ones cost 2M.
this is a section of a 4M radius, which gives you insane degrees of freedom. It is not a perfect system, but I'm really enjoying how it works so far :) hope it can be helpful to someone out there!
