You're so cute compared to the gruff apex predators of your team, but what none of them seem to know is how skilled you are at hunting. Kyle was covering you as you breached a building, while Simon tracked the two of you on his scope.

His warning comes too late, and a scorpion hybrid gets the jump on you and Kyle. You yank Kyle out of the way, diving after the scorpion and getting stung in the abdomen.

You didn't even flinch from the stinger, grabbing hold of the tail and yanking it hard. You use the leverage of the tail to slam him into the wall, pinning him there so you can sink your teeth into his throat. Kyle watches in shock, but shakes it off quickly when Simon warns him there's more enemies on the way.

On the humvee ride back, everyone stares at you with bated breath. "Feeling sick at all, Y/N?" Johnny pipes up, nodding towards your bleeding midsection. Price had applied a few pieces of guaze to tide you over until you got to the infirmary, but he didn't have any antivenom for you.

"Oh, no. I'm immune to scorpion venom."

I have noticed that North American Rodents tend to be… overachievers. I suppose if one of my Aunts had a PhD in Hydrogeologic Engineering (Beavers) and my Uncle was a Master-class Plumber and Drainage expert (Pocket Gophers) I might feel some pressure to contribute a bit. Course, those guys are big. Not everybody has the body mass to go hauling trees and dirt.

Of course, even the smaller Mice lineages manage to impress in their own ways. From the Pack Rats: with their elaborate houses and trade deals; to the Deer Mice: quick as a ghost.

But, Today’s Beastie is:

They’re hunters!

They principally eat insects: centipedes, scorpions, crickets, spiders, flies, etc.

They have, notably, evolved an immunity to the painful sting of the Bark Scorpion, on which they regularly feed.

This appears to have had the side effect of raising their general pain tolerance.

They stalk their prey like a cat!

They “howl” like a tiny wolf!

Grasshopper mice are some of the coolest rodents on the planet: They're primarily carnivorous and feed on venomous scorpions/snakes/centipedes, and their bodies even process venom into painkillers. They also howl into the night like tiny wolves, which earns them the nickname of "werewolf mouse". These fakemon are a direct play on that very idea :) Maraudent gets Scrappy, Immunity, and Moxie as a Hidden Ability; Vyrmenthrope sees Immunity replaced with Poison Heal.

Now, I know i said he's a grasshopper mouse, but I just couldn't resist. I can make his dad a grasshopper mouse and his mom a harvest mouse. Best of both worlds.

Also, he lives in a world with living tree's. I believe giant flowers to sleep in aren't that far fetched.
