early in the semester physics notes regarding graphing

10.5.18

these are literally the nicest math notes i’ve ever taken in my whole life. also, note to self, academic coffee makes a really good hot chocolate. on top of that, here are some nice lights from the main building on campus.

-- for the vertical line x = a      -- if x > a, shade the half-plane to the right of x = a      -- if x < a, shade the half-plane to the left of x = a

-- for the horizontal line y = b      -- if y > b, shade the half-plane above y = b      -- if y < b, shade the half-plane below y = b

1. replace the inequality sign with an equal

2. solve

3. graph:      -- use a solid line if the original inequality contains (greater than or equal to) or (less than or equal to)      -- use a dashed line if the original inquality contains < or >

4. choose a test point, not on the line

5. substitute the coordinates of the test point into the inequality
