I’M DONE! My first year of my masters program is officially over. After slaving over papers, I’m so glad to get a little bit of a break (I wrote a total of 76 pages of research over the last three weeks). I’ll begin research on my thesis over the summer, but I’ll still have much more time to write fanfic again.
Thank you guys so much for your patience and kind words when I got the chance to write. I’ll be regularly getting fics out starting next week!
gotta give a presentation this morning that’s worth a large percentage of my grade, and I’m nervous af, but at least it’ll be over soon and I can come home and indulge in my hyperfixations again.

It's so sad how abusive supervisors and toxic grad school environments shrink our dreams. I started this doctoral degree wanting to make a difference, do great research, be a good teacher and mentor to my undergrads, and lead my own lab one day.
After almost five years, I don't care about publications or making a scientific breakthrough anymore. Now I just want to make it out of here alive and find a quiet gig in tech where I'm not constantly fighting to be treated like a human being worthy of dignity and resources.
How much has science been set back because potentially solid researchers get stymied by the graduate school process and then bullied out of academia?

I keep opening different apps, as if any of the apps on my phone will magically transport me back in time to before I spent half the semester ignoring my final project, or forward in time to after the project and presentation are over with.
