Much like its predecessor, Sharknado 2: The Second One does exactly what one might expect. The sequel ups the ante considerably, kicking off its...
I'm a massively proud girlfriend of the guy who does these, and think if anyone is into horror reviews this site is well worth a gander, and a listen!
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
After being bored, and annoyed, by its predecessor, my hopes weren't particularly high for the daftly-named Insidious: Chapter 2. My mindset wasn't helped by being surrounded by one of the worst crowds I could've possibly imagined (Frightfest really does spoil a person's moviegoing experience forevermore). Once again, there were scarcely few original ideas on show here, and the premise was even flimsier than previously. Neither of these films could hold a candle (pun intended) to The Conjuring, and it is perhaps more worrying that Wan did so well with that picture, and yet scuppered these two. Check out my review, for Gorepress, right over here.
Drive (2011)
The last review I wrote before I left for Frightfest, was of Nicolas Winding Refn's cult movie, Drive. To me, this film is a horror movie, but it exists in that little-known subgenre of Not Quite Horror, to which this, this and indeed this also belong. I'm not the most massive Drive fan, nor do I get the big deal about Gosling, but this is a great piece of filmmaking, and it deserves the attention it received, if not the uncontrolled praise and adulation. Check out my review, for Gorepress, right here.

Only God Forgives (2013)
Recently, I acquired what every cinephile should hold in their arsenal, alongside a poised finger for shushing fellow patrons, a Cineworld Unlimited card, and with it came a shit tonne of new releases, all of which I was dying to see. I chose Only God Forgives, Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling's follow-up film to the hugely popular, Drive, and, although it didn't blow my mind like it did others, it is still worth seeing, and will always hold a special place in my heart as the first movie I watched, with my Unlimited card. I still don't get the big deal with the leading man though, but then again, this is my Ryan Gosling, so perhaps I'm not part of his target market. Check out my review, for my Gorepress buddies, right here.
The Conjuring (2013)
I was lucky enough to catch The Conjuring early, after queueing for four hours for tickets to Frightfest, and, to my surprise, it was really rather good! I'm not a massive fan of James Wan, I find Insidious particularly troublesome - and can't understand why anybody would desire the sequel that is due out later this year - plus he doesn't have any clue how to end a movie, but this is still a chilling, spooky and really quite scary haunted house movie, which I highly recommend enjoying in the theatre, where the atmosphere will be most potent. I reviewed it for my buds over at Gorepress, and you can check it out right here.
Devil (2010)
My latest piece for my Gorepress buddies is a review of the rather dreadful Devil, which comes to us courtesy of the master of misdirection, rubbish monsters, and woefully shitty endings, M. Night Shyamalan. There is, quite literally, nothing to recommend this film. It's lazy, boring and nothing particularly scary happens. A must for those who fear elevators, but otherwise avoid at all costs. Check out my review here.
