if you put your ear up to a hornet nest, you can hear the hornets inside. from the sounds that you receive, if you have remarkably good hearing and audio processing, you could perhaps make out the individual hornets in the nest; their locations and maybe even their activities. it is theoretically possible to tell based on this information the shape and internal structure of the nest. with enough time spent listening to and studying the sounds of hornets' nests, I imagine this skill would naturally develop. however I do not recommend this course of action
