fun thing that happens in my life is every so often i discover why i didn't figure out i was audhd sooner.
recently i've been trying to remember how to braid, so i can braid my hair for the night before i go to bed and not have a nest the next morning. it was so weird because it used to be so second nature to me, but for most of my life i didn't have long hair (only when i was doing theater stuff) but when i started braiding my hair as a child i just immediately had the muscle memory.
today i remembered that when i was a kid, at school, there was a huge encouragement of doing quiet crafts (or drawing) while literally doing any other class. and they amply supplied stuff too, like yarn and those weird plastic strings for braiding and other weaving things. math? braid a bracelet. world history? work on a necklace. story time? great time to come up with new patterns and impress friends.
as long as it was quiet, did not disrupt any other classmates, and was something that did not take your _attention_ away from class, you were not only allowed but encouraged to do it in class.
... the school was giving us all fidget toys.
