Toriel and Asgore are my favorite undertale characters so it's cool that the alts of them have fairly prominent roles. Though I'm still annoyed Toriel just ends up sleeping through CH.3. Like in hindsight it's obvious it serves a purpose in the building narrative and that it's not time for her to learn about the dark world yet but I'm still a litle mad though
#Divorced couple who lost their children and now one obligated himself to killing kids again and again and doesn't really want to but#never Had to kill that many kids anyway and feels really bad for himself about it. Wife who's trying to save kids from ex-husband and#they leave one by one and get killed by him and both of them are kind of having to relive their childrens' deaths again and again in#different ways.#Also like how there's a shade of brutal pragmatism in Toriel in that she chides him because he could've just murdered ONE kid. crossed the#barrier. and then killed a bunch more humans. and he's like yeag :(. Like it's obvious that Toriel wouldn't do that in his place but#I like that she suggests it. Shows that her opposition to the child murder policy is not Only moral in nature but also because it means#she personally has had to relive this again and again and again and again and can't really do much to stop it#And on the flipside Asgore hasn't taken the pragmatic route even though he could have at literally any time because he's evidently#hoping he'd never have to actually go through with it and the fallen human kids would just stop showing up at some point but he's backed#himself into being committed to it because it gives everyone a sense of hope and progress so he doesn't just like. Call it off either.#Brutality through passivity and avoidance and a lack of his ex-wife's pragmatic sense. It seems like they used to compliment#each other's strengths and faults but it is so over on so many levels#Good characters.
