ok but one thing i love about goncharov is the ironic subversion of themes. like we have katya, the madonna-like character whose white palette screams of loyalty and purity, while andrey is the judas-like character whose motifs are the dagger and the poisoned cup.
but at the end, itās katya who draws a gun on goncharov, and andrey whoās left holding his bleeding body in his arms. by having theĀ āloyal wifeā be the backstabber and theĀ ādoublecrosserā be the broken-hearted lover, scorsese subverts both biblical imagery and gender roles, and he does it in such a subtle and poetic way too, without taking away the complexity of either character.Ā
goncharov (1973) modern-day reboot fancast
goncharov as robert pattinson
andrey as matthew patrick
katya as anya taylor joy
sofia as phoebe waller-bridge
Gaslight, Gatekeep, Goncharov
The Clock Scene and the constant reminders of it throughout the movie really hit me as you can see, you cannot get the Gonch without the Clock š
Best Scorsese movie ever, I cry every time i watch it.
Thank you @beelzeebub you cured my artblockāØ
The fact that I still havenāt seen a single person even mention the hallway scene⦠like yes they didnāt speak but they didnāt HAVE TO, THEY BOTH UNDERSTOOD WORDLESSLY THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION BUT FOR THEM TO PART WAYS. The tension between them, and Goncharov reaching out to meet Andreyās hand, neither of them looking at the other??? Breathing each others SMOKE?? Such an underrated scene, im so sad this moment gets overlooked :(

no one is discussing the potential of a muppet retelling of goncharov. think about it:
-kermit as the brooding titular character having a homoerotic relationship with fozzie as andrey
-miss piggy absolutely outshining everyone as katya and finally (finally!) getting to play a sapphic character
-thereās so much potential for ice pick joeās casting. gonzo? animal? crazy harry? jack black?
-and of course nothing says mafia movie like some showtunes sung by muppet rats with nasally italian accents
i truly believe it could become one of the greatest muppet movies of all time.
how could i ever leave tumblr. where else will i get glup shitto horse plinko ides of march goncharov mishapocalypse oh worm, huh? this hellsite has a personality. it lives, and that is a threat and a consolation prize. it has lore, bitch. 2014core. do you like the color of the sky. spiders georg. loss. sexymen. british food be like. live slug reaction. crab rave. kneel says the demon light. i can keep fucking going, the list is endless
I find it so interesting the parallel of what's going on on Tumblr versus on (my side of) Tiktok rn. On here we have the Goncharov resurgence, everyone contributing to the bit with fanart and in-depth analysis and all sorts of content. Then on Tiktok there's the 'dabloon economy' and more and more people are making elaborate posts role-playing things like 'president of the dabloon economy' and cat characters running a dnd style inn with wares and everything.
In both, we have people contributing to a bit and actively role-playing to keep it going. At the same time. And I don't think either is aware of the other. The internet just collectively decided now is the time for shenanigans and I love to see it.
