On Hermeticism's "Not Being Evil" and the Importance of Doctrine
As readers of the Hermetic texts might have realized by now (especially, I hope, with the guidance and commentary that my Reading the Hermetica blogpost series can give), these texts can be a bit of a strange thing. They’re not encrypted or encoded or anything, despite the occasional claim one might see about that (generally made because one is trying to mask their own ignorance in reading them…
"I am much afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures, and engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which means are not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must be corrupt." - Martin Luther
"The need for knowledge increases with the inability to have faith. There is a boiling point on the scale of culture at which all faith, all revelation, all authority evaporate, at which people, according to their own lights, demand that they be instructed, but they also want to be convinced. The apron strings of childhood have fallen away: people want to stand on their own legs. But in this, people's metaphysical need is as ineradicable as any physical need. It becomes serious in the demand for philosophy, and humankind appeals in its need to all the thoughtful minds to whom it has ever given birth. The hollow verbiage and impotent exertions of intellectual eunuchs are no longer enough; rather, it then requires a serious-minded philosophy, i.e., one aiming at the truth, not at stipends and fees, one which does not ask whether it pleases ministers or councillors or whether it suits the interest of this or that contemporary church faction; rather, it is obvious that the business of philosophy is something completely different from providing a means of livelihood for the poor in spirit." - Arthur Schopenhauer, 'On The Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason'
Does Godlessness Lead to Lawlessness?
“And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.” -Matthew 24:12 Over the past few years, I’ve noticed something about the culture; it’s in a spiral of degradation. My conclusions result from not only reading the news, but from observing what goes on around me, day by day. Much of society has become lawless, and by lawless I mean breaking the laws of the land. In fact,…

(via Cruelty - A Crooked Path) We can fall prey to sin when cruelty is aimed at us and we have to be careful to respond to God first, before we react to the person who is hurting us. The worst of cruelty is when people say: I love you and then treat you so cruelly. Just Sayin: When you say: “I love you.” Don’t just toss that out like ice on a hot day. Mean it by the way you consistently act. I have had someone say: “I love you” and then treat me so cruelly. That is not love. You don’t love someone you treat like dirt on your shoe.
Amorality (also known as amoralism) is an absence of, indifference towards, disregard for, or incapacity for morality. Some simply refer to it as a case of not being moral or immoral. Amoral should not be confused with immoral, which refers to an agent doing or thinking something they know or believe to be wrong.
Anything goes, nothing is wrong, you decide for yourself.
