good omens s2 episode reactions: 4
i'm watching season 2 one episode at a time and posting my reactions. e1, e2, e3, e5, e6 (links will be edited in as i post them)
once again the main plot takes a backseat to the minisode, but i liked the minisode. i had no idea what to expect with the title "nazi zombie flesheaters," but what do you know, there sure were nazi zombie flesheaters and it made complete sense in context! of course hell would try to get evidence at some point of crowley and aziraphale fraternizing. aziraphale's silly magic tricks save the day. the interactions between aziraphale and crowley are great. we know crowley saving the books in the bombed church is when aziraphale fell in love, and i'd be interested in rewatching the scenes directly afterward to get a better look at his reaction to the realization. 40s crowley is in high spirits, possibly just excited to be on aziraphale's good side again. it's surprising that he's never fired a gun before, but i suppose he's not that kind of demon. the moment when he's staring down the barrel of a gun at aziraphale is wonderfully tense, both because we don't know whether he'll hit aziraphale and because he probably feels some turmoil over it. the miracle blocker is a useful device that i'm sure we'll see a lot of in fanfiction.
shax implies that the perception of crowley and aziraphale was as a couple. hell may be evil, but at least they're not queerphobic.
i see where the plot with the shop owners' association meeting is going: aziraphale will try to get maggie and nina together at it, and the forces of hell will find the bookshop conveniently open. why doesn't aziraphale warn crowley about shax's threat?!??!
still a lot of mysteries that don't have an answer in sight. who wiped gabriel's memory (g-d? satan?), what was supposed to be in the box, and what terrible event was it supposed to prevent? why that pub in edinburgh and why the song everyday? my parents seem sure that some chekov's guns from the minisodes will come back and explain things, but i'm not sure that will be the case. i would love if that happened, but i think the minisodes are just fun backstory, so i'm not getting my hopes up.
my overall rating: 8.5/10. the main plot is building towards something, though frustratingly little progress has been made on the mysteries. i liked this minisode a lot!
