Starting work on a Gothic Literature (abbreviated as Glit) work, usure if it'll be a novel, poem, or whatever other work but this is just day one.
I have three possible subgenres I could explore. Technological Horror, Biological Horror, or Social Horror. These three seem to be where my mind plays the most so I'll try and explore these. Today my focus is on Technological horror. Some inspo I'll be drawing from,
AM from "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison
Mr. Harrigan's Phone by Stephen King
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
I think the main focus here with technological horror won't be so much the "technology comes to life" idea, moreso the way technology can be used by various people. Some manipulate it, some manipulate others with it, some even deify it. In "How to Write Gothic Horror" by The Horror Scriptorium on YouTube, Viktoria talks about how in Glit, the question isn't so much "how will they survive" as much as it is "what will they uncover and what will that truth cost" so I think I'll be exploring that with technology. What will the protagonist uncover about technology and what will that truth about technology cost them? Obviously there will be some themes of AI because art is always a timestamp of the period it was made, so it being 2026 with AI running rampant in our society, there's virtually no way to write a technological horror without touching on it. So that's where I'm sitting.
