Are people still sending u songs? Bc a lot of the songs in the Cowboy Bebop OST give me heavy Kent Parson feels. Like "Call Me Call Me" by Steve Conte, totally Kent trying to reach Jack some time after the od. But I can just picture him watching the anime and listening to the OST on repeat and crying during "Gotta Knock A Little Harder"
So explanation/context I guess? I constantly make extensive playlists for every character in CP (and @ace-offâ so thatâs a thing). Â Here is my fandom spotify. I do have more playlists on the back burner, I just tend to post them when people have requests because itâs less labor intensive for me that way? So in short: music is a major way I explore characterizations and relationship dynamics so Iâm always up for talking about songs.Â
Anyway, I havenât seen Cowboy Bebop other than a few passing scenes when my dad watches it late at night (itâs his fav anime I swear). So I had to dig this song up and yes I agree.Â
So the tone hits a lot of stylistic themes that resonate for Kent? You have this folksy/western undertone that fits Las Vegas well. (And actually reminds me that I should explore this idea of the âwild westâ and his rise to stardom a little more). Then thereâs this undercurrent of 90s grunge influence (mostly in the vocals and lyricism). But musically thereâs also orchestral accompaniment which is soooo 90s.Â
And I think these things are important when considering Kent because the proverbial 90s didnât really end until 01-05 (I say 05 because there was this distinct shift in music and film around that time, and if it normally takes a decade about 3 years to find itâs rhythm it makes sense that a new century took a tad longer, but that could talk about more some other time). So a lot of how Jack and Kent grew up was extremely informed by a 90s aesthetic. Â
I close my eyes and I keep seeing things
you already win for giving me a Kent with flashbacks/triggersÂ
Confusion creeps inside me raining downGot to get to youBut I don't know how
yea this is hard core Kent âloves until he bleedsâ Parson trying to figure out wtf to do to bridge that gap between themÂ
Call me, call meLet me know it's alright
This is basically what Y1 of Ace Off will feel like at timesÂ
Call me, call meDon't you think it's 'bout time
this is also appropriate for âwaits six years for something to happen and it never didâÂ
I had your number quite some time agoBack when we were youngBut I had to grow
See this part is interesting because you could argue this is Kent post Epikegster (which Iâve always seen as his turning point to *get* that he canât get Jack back). Or, this is Jack as a call back to Kent saying he is done and Kent should be too
but yesssss, Kent is anime trash and I can see him connecting to this on a deep level.Â
ALSO -- have we considered how much Kent would love watching Seraph of the End? because two childhood friends driven apart by toxic regimes and constantly trying to âsave each otherâ and fucking up seems like Kentâs jamÂ
anyway, thanks for the great suggestion!Â
