And yup, this is a special review for Mother's Day!
This tea has the tartest smell I have ever experienced - the rhubarb is definitely to blame for that. It's strong enough that it actually doesn't change much at all with steeping. To be completely honest, my first reaction to this was "ugh." I wasn't too keen on actually drinking the stuff, since all signs pointed to it being either overly bitter or tasting like medicine.
Thankfully, I did actually drink it once it cooled, and it is not either of those things. It's extremely fruity, but the spice and black tea compliment it nicely so it isn't sickening. It isn't as sweet as I was expecting it to be, but there's definitely something there. The aftertaste is sort of syrupy, but it not sickening. It only lasts a few seconds, though your mouth tastes slightly sweet for a little while after that.
As promised by David's Tea's newsletter, this tea steeps to be a bright pink colour. It's pretty impressive. Obviously this tea is intended to be given as a mother's day present. Truth be told, however, my mother would hate this tea. She hates fruity teas to begin with, and she is not the type of person who gravitates towards things just because they are pink. I have to admit I take after her here: I don't mind fruit, but I could never have something like this all the time. Which I suppose is one of the reasons it's limited edition but still. The pink gimmick also doesn't appeal to me much - kinda cute, yeah, but it's not really selling the product to me. This tea is so cutesy and sparkly it's almost a little annoying, especially since I know that if I gave this to my mom, she'd regift it. Obviously, this is pretty specific to me, so make of the marketing what you will.
Remember this tea is limited edition, so if this sounds up your alley (or your mom's alley) get some quick!
