Samhain – the day of Samhain (October 31st - November 1&2) • Samhain is a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition. In modern times, Samhain (pronounced “SAH-win”) is usually celebrated from October 31 to November 1 to welcome in the harvest and usher in “the dark half of the year.” Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during Samhain, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld. • Ancient Celts marked Samhain as the most significant of the four quarterly fire festivals, taking place at the midpoint between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. During this time of year, hearth fires in family homes were left to burn out while the harvest was gathered. After the harvest work was complete, celebrants joined with Druid priests to light a community fire using a wheel that would cause friction and spark flames. The wheel was considered a representation of the sun and used along with prayers. Cattle were sacrificed, and participants took a flame from the communal bonfire back to their home to relight the hearth. • As Christianity gained a foothold in pagan communities, church leaders attempted to reframe Samhain as a Christian celebration. In the 9th century, Pope Gregory moved the celebration back to the time of the fire festivals, but declared it All Saints’ Day, on November 1. All Souls’ Day would follow on November 2. #fairytaletuesday #fairytale #fairytaleflash #spookyseason #ghostmonth #Halloweekend #allhallowseve #Samhain #mabon #autumnseason #autumn #halloween2022 #halloweenseason #halloween #spiritofhalloween #Spiritique #mindfulness #Spiritual #Spirituality #mystical #mystique #mystic #mysticisim #renaissance #renaissanceart #folk #folklore #folkspirits #folkmystic #fantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/CkaSaSHSG7S/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HALLOWEEN 🎃🍁🍂 • Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31 every yearly celebration. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. • Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. ~ This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. • To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other’s fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter. #fairytaletuesday #fairytale #fairytaleflash #spookyseason #ghostmonth #Halloweekend #allhallowseve #Samhain #mabon #autumnseason #autumn #halloween2022 #halloweenseason #halloween #spiritofhalloween #Spiritique #mindfulness #Spiritual #Spirituality #mystical #mystique #mystic #mysticisim #renaissance #renaissanceart #folk #folklore #folkspirits #folkmystic #fantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/CkaRD6UyRsP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Hungry Ghost Festival The Hungry Ghost Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It is also named Zhongyuan Festival by Taoists, or Yulanpen Festival by Buddhists. The festival falls on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Hungry Ghost Festival 2022 is on August 12. Why do the Chinese celebrate the date in different ways? They believed the spirits of the ancestors would wander the living realm during the period, thus they can feed the dead to appease them. Chinese prepare food offerings and burn Joss papers etc to honor their ancestors. Ghost Month is the seventh lunar month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. It is the scariest month of the year. The Ghost Month 2022 is from July 29 to August 26, 2022. It is believed on the first day of the month, the gates of hell open up and ghosts are free to feed and enjoy themselves for one month. On the last day of the month, the gates of Hell close up again thus spirits come back to their spiritual realm. Chinese care for the ghosts to pay respect to their ancestors and entertain wandering spirits. People operate the celebrations on the start and end date of ghost month. The celebration reaches its peak on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. #fairytaletuesday #fairytaleFlash #ghostmonth2022 #GhostMonth #halloweenseason #halloween2022 #Chinese #chinesetemple #temple #SpuritualSunday #Spiritique #mindfulness #Spiritual #Spirituality #mystical #mystique #mystic #mysticisim #chinesefolklore #chinesefolk #folk #folklore #folkspirits #folkmystic #chineseculture #chinese #chinesetradition #thehungryghost #thehungryghostfestival #sacredtemple https://www.instagram.com/p/ChWsSJvO89p/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The season of this year's #Halloween / pre Halloween season kicked off begins with a #ghostmonth season in Chinese! The ghost month season occurred last August 8 until August 22 this year. The Ghost Festival, also known as the Zhongyuan Festival in Taoism and Yulanpen Festival in Buddhism. It is a traditional Taoist and Buddhist festival held in certain East Asian countries. According to the Chinese calendar, the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh month. In Chinese culture, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm. Distinct from both the Qingming Festival (or Tomb Sweeping Day, in spring) and Double Ninth Festival (in autumn) in which living descendants pay homage to their deceased ancestors, during Ghost Festival, the deceased are believed to visit the living. The Ghost Festival is held during the seventh month of the Chinese calendar. It also falls at the same time as a full moon, the new season, the fall harvest, the peak of Buddhist monastic asceticism, the rebirth of ancestors, and the assembly of the local community. During this month, the gates of hell are opened up and ghosts are free to roam the earth where they seek food and entertainment. These ghosts are believed to be ancestors of those who forgot to pay tribute to them after they died, or those who were never given a proper ritual send-off. *Picture credits to the owner. #fairytaletuesday #fairytale #fairytaleflash #SpiritWeek #ghostmonth2022 #Mabon #Samhain #halloweenseason #halloween2022 #SpuritualSunday #Spiritique #mindfulness #Spiritual #Spirituality #mystical #mystique #mystic #mysticisim #renaissance #renaissanceart #folk #folklore #folkspirits #folkmystic #fantasy #chineseculture #chinese #chinesetradition https://www.instagram.com/p/ChUDzXoOKDZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
