It's a clear, cool night full of stars. Their leftover picnic dishes sit in a plastic grocery bag in the front seat while the pair lie on top of a blanket in the bed of Ushi's old truck. Currently, their sides are pressed together, hands in one another's as they gaze at the sky. They've shifted positions as the darkness has crept on them, and they likely will continue until they either fall asleep or finally get up and go home.

Jesse and Forrest have fallen into a quiet, mismatched friendship. Forrest doesn’t question his long disappearances (which are spent mostly cooking, going on stakeouts with Mike and trying to stop anything bad from happening to Mr. White) and Jesse doesn’t question his own strange bouts—how he from time to time turns to look at something to his side that he can’t see, how he asks him personal questions from time to time, “are you okay?” so on and so forth.

When they see each other for the first time in a couple weeks—Jesse had to go to Mexico with Gus, do all that cartel shit—they’ve only exchanged a couple words before Forrest pulls him into a side-hug, his arm around him. He’s much taller than him, so it’s easy to move him around. He lets out an undignified squeak, but is grateful that he feels strongly enough about him to give him a hug.

The last thing Jesse had wanted was to involve Forrest. Oh, God, Forrest, who had never done anything wrong, who had never even dipped a finger into the criminal underworld, Forrest who could see ghosts, Forrest who must have known he was on his way because surely there were about a dozen ghosts crowding him right now, from Mr. White to Todd to the entire fucking gang.

But he was there, and Forrest gave him tea, freaked out by his appearance before he leaned in and ran a thumb over one of the scars on his face. He blinked hard to not cry at the care. He hadn’t had his face touched in a way that was loving in at minimum months, and at most a year. He shook lightly against him.

    “i’m FINE, forrest.”  uninjured arm moves to try and wave the other boy off.  hiroto was NOT FINE, right arm having taken a pretty nasty cut on his upper bicep.  hiroto was no stranger to injuries from a fight or training, what he was a stranger to was having someone to CARE that he was injured.  even though hiroto’s appearance seemed annoyed, he was appreciative for the kindness.  he knows, however, that forrest won’t just let this go.  

   it was a strange feeling, being back on the ua campus. the security system wasn’t DIFFICULT for him to get past, not after all the years he spent studying it. it was almost comically easy for him to get inside the main walls. he had hovered there, landing on the balcony of forrest’s dorm. he hadn’t seen the other in WEEKS, and he would be lying if he said he didn’t miss the others company. he knew how POWERFUL he could be, and how much forrest could bring to his mission.

            “ i’ve... considered the possibility of things going badly, it doesn’t seem that probable. or really that harmful. the good outweighs the risks. ” then again, it wasn’t really him he was worried about. which he wasn’t worried, by the way. like he said, the chances of things going wrong were slim to none! forrest would be fine.

          carrie had never meant to make a friend . if they were even friends . she thought that they were , but a worry in the back of her mind tugged at her . tommy ross had been kind too . so had sue snell . that didn’t stop the carnage that carrie had made them bear witness too . she tried to blink away the thoughts of prom , and the guilt she carried . no matter how many towns she had run to it had always followed her . even still she tried to trust him , in her own way . nervously tugging at the ends of her sleeves she stopped , the brisk air cold on her face . “ where are we going exactly ? ” carrie rocked back on her heels , shoving her hands into her pockets . 

        she didn’t often get to spend time in nature . carrie had never sought the comfort of a babbling brook or the looming figure of the treetops . it seemed like that was something that forrest new well though . like it somehow had become an extension of himself . carrie chewed on her bottom lip , trying to follow his footsteps . chamberlain had felt flatter in her mind somehow in contrast . although maine was so far from her fingertips that she tried to let the memory of it fade , so that her carnage , and by association guilt , might fade too . carrie allowed herself to dip her boots into a newly formed puddle , smile accompanying such a childish act . “ my mama never let wander off alone , she said that the darkness of the world lived in the wilderness . perhaps it’s because all the blue birds don’t attend mass as devoutly as her . ”
