Top 5 Latinx shows
Excluding Ugly Betty, Jtv, and One day at a time since I wrote about them in other posts.
George Lopez
This is such a funny show with Lopez' specific brand of humor subverting and exaggerating the culture details of a Mexican American family being just like any US sitcom family. You know it just dealt with a few more chanclas and gang members. But also dealt with important issues like double standards on sexuality, parenting, steroids, and more.
The Baker and the Beauty
This was a lovely telenovela that was gone too soon because Netflix doesn't know a good thing when they have it. After embarrassingly turning down his girlfriend's proposal and breaking up, baker Carlos is invited by fashion supermodel to forget his troubles. No, he doesn't hop into bed with her, they just go a night on the town. But the paparazzi already has their sights on them, and what's more they have enough spark that they want to keep trying underwraps. Not only is the romance sweet, but it had a sweet coming out story with Carlos' sister, , and redemption for his ex girlfriend Vanessa as she embarks on her own romance. And it ended on a cliffhanger!
Gentrified
This is such a good show tackling an important topic of gentrification, the high rates of living and culture appropriation among others with the Morales family trying to keep their family restaurant alive while dealing with their personal issues of failed romances, toxic masculine mindsets, and immigration fears. But alas it was cancelled because Netflix is stupid.
On my block
This was a fun coming of age show between four best friends in the shadow of inner city gangs gunning after them thanks to Cesar's older brother and his ties to finding the rumored RollerWorld money and just burgeoning feelings and sexuality. But the heart of the show is the four best friends even as they fight and grow apart, they always come together again.
Love, Victor
This spin off of Love, Simon may tackle similar beats but is also unafraid to go harder paths like when Victor's parents don't immediately accept him, his new feelings toward a religion that won't accept him, insecurity of being the newbie gay compared to his boyfriend who is very comfortable and has figured things out for himself sexuality-wise. Not to mention, Victor's friends get their own issues from loved ones with mental illness to neglect and emotional abuse. But it's not all the darkness I am describing, it's realistic showing the heart racing moments of your first crush, the support of friends through anything and the mentor-like relationship Victor has with Simon really helped him gain confidence. It's lovely.

“Ooh, it does have a Whole Foods, though.”
So the city I claim is super working class and it's got some yuppie gentrifiers recently moving up all in it and then I see in the Pittsburgh related tags on Instagram hip Rich Kids schlepping it where I used to cry because I didn't know if I was going to get food because I had to pay rent instead of my sports information. And the little tiny hovel piece of s*** building I lived in which had its own ecosystem in three different stores on the bottom is torn down and there's a fancy restaurant in its place with an attached Boutique shop.
I'm not saying that it's okay to have lots of dilapidated falling in slums in the world where living there is hazardous to your health and safety but where are we going where the poor people going??!?!?!!?
Where do they get off just rolling into a joint an acting like it's straight up fancy town.
It ain't your f****** fancy photoshoot spot where you go to act orcas Julius and like you having a good old f****** time.
I'm gunna dump ya into a passing coal barge off the Fort Pitt bridge...
