Genpei (12 of 65) - Christian Benavides
Do we (I'm talking to my self bc this is a dead fandom) know the ship/duo name for Naomi and Kappeita??
I couldn't find anything in Japanese either but then again I'm not that well versed in the language. But in my head I have been calling them "Genpei"
After the Genpei War (1180-85), the two sides fighting was the Minamoto clan and the Taira clan.
So I think it fits for the two rivals!
[ side note: If there is anyone that has read Capeta or is interested in reading it, hmu! bc I need someone to talk abt these racing boys with!! 。°(°.◜ᯅ◝°)°。 ]

“Tomoe Gozen”, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892)
Tomoe (1157-1247 (?) was born into a samurai family from Kiso valley, in Shinano province. Her mother was Minamoto no Yoshinaka’s wet nurse so Tomoe grew up with him, perhaps the two were lovers but nothing is certain. When Yoshinaka set off to fight the Taira clan in 1181, Tomoe went to war with him. Her military career lasted from 1181 to 1184 and she proved to be an extremely able commander as well as a deadly fighter. At the battle of Awazu, when it became clear that they were going to lose, Yoshinaka dismissed Tomoe, saying that he didn’t want to die alongside a woman. What happened to her after that is uncertain, one of the hypothesis being that she became a buddhist nun.
Tomoe appears in the “Tale of the Heike” and makes quite an impressive appearance :
“Kiso no Yoshinaka had brought with him from Shinano two female attendants, Tomoe and Yamabuki. Yamabuki had fallen ill and stayed at the capital. Of the two, Tomoe was especially beautiful, with white skin, long hair, and charming features. She was also a remarkably strong archer, and as a swordswoman she was a warrior worth a thousand, ready to confront a demon or god, mounted or on foot. She handled unbroken horses with superb skill, she rode unscathed down perilous descents. Whenever battle was imminent, Yoshinaka sent her out as his first captain, equipped with strong armor, an oversized sword, and a mighty bow; and she performed more deeds of valor than any of his other warriors. “
Tomoe was known for her skills with the sword and the bow and was not said to use a naginata in battle. However, the artist chose to associate her with the traditional weapon of a female warrior.

I will conveniently forget about this debacle whenever Genpei is mentioned.
Because:
Ryo and Akira didn't think this for nothing
And dude no one blushes like this when talking to your rival. Like Capeta stand up!!
Seri even thought it was a girl, but the again she is a bit delusional

Yamabuki Gozen, Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)
In the medieval chronicle “The tale of the Heike”, Yamabuki is one of the two women who went to war alongside the general Minamoto no Yoshinaka (1154-1184) during the Genpei War (1180-1185), the other being Tomoe Gozen. In another version, Tomoe’s sister in arms in named Aoi, and it is said that she died in battle in 1183. The exact truth is unknown. The chronicle tells that somewhere between 1183 and 1184, Yamabuki became ill and had to be left behind at the capital, Kyoto, so she was not present at the battle of Awazu in 1184, where her lord met his end. What happened to her is left to imagination.
Here, she is depicted wearing her armor, sewing seated on several shields by the fireside. “Yamabuki” is the Japanese word for the flower named “kerria japonica”, the yellow ones that can be seen on her clothes.
