taira from you and i are polar opposites is the character equivalent of “would you treat a friend like you treat yourself?” every time i see him im like who is this guy but a mirror thrust directly in my face. It’s so easy to see that his pessimism and catastrophization gets in the way of his happiness; see that his worst thoughts are Very Obviously Not True and he’s creating a false narrative in his mind where everything is awful forever and everyone secretly hates and is judging him even though all his friends like him and want him around. how could he think so lowly of himself that he pushes away the people that love him!!! And then i remember being afraid of getting my friends christmas gifts because i thought they’d think i was weird for trying too hard and liking them too much, and i go Hmmmmm. i should examine this further.
