Falcata Swashbuckler (Swashbuckler Archetype)
Also known as the Rondelo Swashbuckler, this archetype represents the age-old Taldan tradition of combining pretty much every weapon with a buckler and making an agile fighting style out of it.
Jokes aside, I can easily see such warriors, dandies, and dastards wielding a popular style from their homelands, regardless of what they might be, gaining specialized training regarding such weaponry.
They might be former military, applying their techniques in new, daring ways, or they might even be self-taught, improvising out a new style where none existed.
Regardless, these warriors have a flair for the dramatic like any good swashbuckler, eager to show off their skills.
Though most swashbucklers prefer piercing weapons, these specialists instead focus on striking precisely and gracefully with their falcatas.
In addition to this, they also gain an array of unique deeds tied to their falcata and the use of it.
With their daring up, these warriors are quick to block with their shields, not just to block attacks, but to pull the weapons from their opponent’s hand.
Focusing their might with a falcate or similar weapon, these swashbucklers can prove surprisingly powerful, shattering and sundering the weapons and armor of foes, doing so with either blistering speed…
In addition to these deeds, these swashbucklers can make the most of their otherwise light shields, dealing harm with them.
Though they are not true masters of two-weapon style, these swashbucklers become whirlwinds of slashing strikes and smashing blows, fighting with both at once.
Luck is an ordinary part of the swashbuckler class, but these specialists don’t seem to come into theirs until later for some reason.
If you’re looking for a buckler-wielding, combat-maneuver-using, pseudo-two-weapon combatant, this might be what you’re looking for. This provides excellent flavor and mechanics for a swashbuckler that focuses on controlling the enemy and using iconic weaponry. Build with that in mind and you’ll do great.
With their focus on such specific weapons, I can imagine there’s a lot of swashbuckler archetypes that could be built around specific weapon combinations, just as there are many fighters do the same. Feel free to use such archetypes as a template for your own creations!
Fighting under the pseudonym “Red Edge” the ambassador Reneia of Shon-Ta enjoys her free moments testing herself against in whatever passes for performance combat in the nations she visits. Fighting with falcata and buckler, she is quite skilled. However, if this secret got out it could ruin her reputation in more traditionalist nations, setting back Shon-Ta’s diplomacy.
In Nekahlm, the up and coming nobles and merchant heirs duel in games of honor with falcata and buckler, their blades shining in the sun and sand. All genie-blooded are forbidden from training as such warriors, however, leading them to practice in secret or develop their own techniques.
One would think wielding primitive weapons like a falcata and buckler would be a liability in space, but Captain Kodla makes do with adamantine examples of both, the youthful triaxian catching and cleaving through enemy weapons with ease. How he got ahold of his ship, however, is another story, one that changes with each telling.
