Like San Diego Comic-Con, this is a show that sells out its official hotel rooms almost instantly. This is a con with a very devoted fan base. Okay, so far Dragon*Con doesn’t sound all that different. Sure, it’s about geek culture and the many bits of creative pop culture that we obsess about, but more than any other show that I’ve been to, it feels like it’s focused squarely on the fans rather than the brands. It’s honestly unlike any other con I’ve ever been to… and I’ve been to a lot, all over the US.
Here’s just a few items that will give you an idea of what Dragon*Con is all about:
I picked up a free copy of Geek Magazine from the SXSW gaming expo. I brought it back and everyone at the office loved it. Today, we found a great review in their online edition at geekexchange.com
Armored Saint's John Bush performs on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance soundtrack; launch party video available
*Photo courtesy of geekexchange.com Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the latest entry in the storied video game franchise, was released in North America last week. On Sunday, February 17th, John Bush joined a host of other musicians to perform songs from the soundtrack at an official launch party at LA's Universal CityWalk. Live footage from the concert, which was held at the Hard Rock Café, is available on youtube.com HERE. John Bush comments on his involvement: "I was asked through Vince at Metal Blade if I wanted to sing a couple of tracks for Metal Gear's Revengeance. I was excited to be a part of it cause I never sang on a video game before. Jamie Christopherson (www.jamiechristopherson.com) is the musical director and he created some killer, heavy tunes. When you play "Metal Gear Rising Revengeance", listen for the songs 'Return to Ashes' and 'The Hot Wind Blowin'!" Additional photos and info from the launch party can be found on geekexchange.com.
