I think one part of the magic of kingdom hearts is the sense of 'what am I doing here...? in this super evocative landscape'
Enjoyed playing valheim. For two hours so far. Its fun to play with someone else again (my brother) and its survival mechanic is really good - i KNEW intellectually it was good but it really does FEEL good. Eating to buff not to live. Not too hard to find food. And building a little comfortable home to buff also. The fire literally makes things feel comfy. The building system is simple and fun. Immediate. They leave ruins spotted around the map for making it easy the first time. It's cool how your changes to the landscape remain. We opened up the home a bit by cutting trees around it. The meadows are... Not super alive let's say. But it's a strange in-between realm so theres basis for that. Exploring it is functional, and that's fine. Chopping wood is satisfying. Good sounds, good animations, good timing. So far, so good. The sunlight is quite beautiful.

Tunic game is great. And I see those multitudes of Zelda references lol. It's really good level and power progression design. Challenging but not too challenging. Pleasant exploration - you can have faith you're going where you must eventually - though the little bit of searching is fun too, having to create a mental map. Fun to learn the combat rhythm, no button smashing, but not too punishing either. Simple and clean overarching goal: you're trying to save a goddess. Ok. That's truly all a story - a game especially - needs. Fun little hidden paths facilitated by the set camera angle. Enough enemy diversity. Cool new upgrades both in traversal options and power. And weird but intriguing meta mystery finding those game manual pages INSIDE the game mostly in a language you can't even read. Probably the best way anyone has ever done game instructions.
It FEELS simple and perfectly balanced and therefore super fun. Ofc it's not simple, theres a million things that have gone into it but. What perfectly elegant mechanics.
