Make that Space
Iām pretty sure a while ago I wrote about making up yourĀ āgame spaceā (or as I have casually started alluding to it as, my grump space) to be as homey and comfy as possible. I donāt really remember when that was, definitely earlier this year, and Iām too lazy to go back and find the post, so Iāll just casually drop that (maybe) mention and if youāre curious you can sift through this blog. Anyway, as I have finally moved out of what myĀ āspaceā was when I wrote that, because, yāknow, it exploded, Iām now comfortably situated in my new space.Ā
I took all day today, one of my few days off this week, to settle myself in and really get comfortable. Itās been my first day withĀ the new house, so I kicked things off by sleeping in an extra four hours. After the hectic week I had, I needed it, alright? Then, grocery shopping, and three hours cleaning up my kitchen to make it presentable.Ā
To flow aroundĀ the point and finally, eventually, get to it, thatās what Iāve been thinking about: upkeep on your space. The kitchen really is my domain to clean, since doing dishes has always been a great chance for me to catch up on podcasts and sit with my thoughts, but cleaning your grump/game space is also important. Settling in, moving around, and once again becoming comfortable in my R&R/work on reviews space has been a weird feeling.Ā
Iām pretty good with the moving stress. TheĀ āin-betweenā homes donāt usually bother me as much as it has my roommates. But having your own zone to really stretch your legs is so important, and itās been a weird experience going without that for so long. A big part of gaming is finding a balance between being comfortable in your space but not cutting yourself off from the rest of the world. Iām one of those people that values the balance of both, and having a homey, welcoming space to share what I love with others. You canāt do that if your space is tooĀ grumpy, so to speak. Making that space, is a big deal.Ā
Maybe itās just as simple as cleaning up the beer cans more than once, ever. Or maybe you really need to wash down that gaming couch because good god what have you been doing in that thing. Or in my case: dust. Like, just for one, dust things off. Seriously. If I ever go back and read this, dust some shit off.
Itās been big, and Iām finally settling in. As much as this seems like an angst-powered diary entry, take care of your game space, and make it something to be proud of; a place where others would want to spend time with you. That, I think, would make most players much happier.
