If I was at work and he had time at home, I made it very clear to him that I expected to walk into a tidy apartment and have lunch waiting for me on the table.

He enjoyed meeting my expectations, and I could genuinely see improvement in the way he handled certain tasks. The point was that I always clearly communicated what was good and what needed to be improved, rather than simply taking over and doing it myself.

In practice, this meant that the first couple of times I would actively participate in cleaning the bathroom with him. I would have to show him where the cleaning cloths were kept, which products to use, where to start, how to clean properly, and where to put everything back afterward. 

The next few times, it was enough just to supervise while he worked and correct him if there was something I didn’t like. Eventually, something almost magical happened, I could be anywhere I wanted while he was doing it and be confident that he would do it properly.

ooh that is a tough one. On one hand I have to cook food more often than I have to do laundry, but on the other hand there are many smaller cooking devices in existence. Do I still have an oven in this scenario? I think I could get by with my slow cooker and a toaster oven and one of those individual electric burners, and that would probably be better than carrying wet laundry home on foot. Hrmm. Yeah I think I'd still choose the laundry, because with no laundry at home one has to remember to do things during business hours and account for travel time and also pay money for it.
