And she ran happily ever after
The Queens 10k was definitely less disastrous than last year but still relatively meh. It was like 94% humidity this morning which sucked and I was really not feeling it. My knee has also been giving me issues which I’m nervous about because I’m less than a month away from the start of marathon training. My favorite little cheerleader came out to watch me run today though so that was a plus. Also seeing @paintingpavement at the out and back part of the race was 👌
I kept it pretty easy today since I did approximately 0 training and was pretty happy with how effortless a 9:40ish pace felt. I left my watch display as the time so I wasn’t really aware of my paces throughout. Of course now I’m kind of wishing that I had pushed more but that wasn’t what I was doing today and (@brain) that’s totally FINE. Today’s experience was SO much different than when I ran this race last year. Sometimes I forget how much I’ve actually improved.
Also...my sister makes the best signs
Overall I feel pretty neutral about how this race went. I hadn’t run in two weeks so I didn’t have high expectations. I’m pleased with the sub 9 average although I think I’m capable of a little faster. I got really nauseas at the end which was annoying because I had some energy saved for the final stretch but it happens I guess. Hoping that this will motivate me to run more consistently because I’ve definitely been slacking.

This race was honestly AWFUL. I went out too fast and goal #1 was completely unrealistic (which I knew) but goal #2 was too easy and so I felt very unmotivated mid race. Honestly around like mile 4 I was just done….I didn’t want to finish so I pulled back and finished the race at an easyish pace. Luckily my 10k PR was set last April so even though today sucked it was much faster than my previous best. I have to remember that not every race is going to be magical and that’s ok.
Right, so today was pretty cool. I went out a little too fast and my watch freaked out in Times Square (I was really convinced I was running a 14 minute mile and pushed way too hard). I felt kind of nauseas starting around mile 3 and by mile 12 I was worried I was going to have to stop bc my stomach hurt so badly but I pushed through for a finish of 2:05:51 (over a 7 minute PR and about 16 minutes faster than my first half last May- there’s definitely an upside to having lots of room to improve lol). Otherwise everything went smoothly and I’m counting down the days until I can run this race again.
I’m not going to lie- I often find myself wishing that I was “better” at this (whatever that even means). It’s a problem that I know in reality has nothing to do with running and everything to do with setting unrealistic expectations for myself and never feeling like what I do is good enough. It’s definitely something to work on. I’ve come a long way, I’ve worked hard, and I am so much stronger than when I started less than 2 years ago. That’s what really matters.
Anyway this has been long and rambly and I will probably cringe looking back at this post in a few months (or days)...if you actually read all of this I love you and I will shut up now.
PS. Low key pissed that NYRR went back to MarathonFoto for this race....like I was really enjoying my free race photos how dare you???
Let's do this
