Ran 4 km today in a good tempo. It was a difficult run, I had to keep pushing myself and the wind was all crazy, but I am glad I stuck it out ☁

4/29/2017 13.35 miles Half marathon? Why not! YTD: 452.16 miles 484 days in a row
Carlo was out today due to running a “Race to Wrigley” with his son. I thought Kip was also tied up (I was wrong), so I made plans with Rene to accompany him on (most of) his 14 miler. He had to run 14 according to his coach, and isn’t used to as early starts as my group, and I had to be back to my house by 8:40 according to MY “coach” ;) He also had his plan as 8 miles at a brisk pace followed by 6 miles at his tempo pace. I was pretty sure I could keep up with him for the 8 miles at his planned “9:00-9:15″, but my time constraints dictated that we should plan a 7 mile out and back, but I’d turn around a half mile early at 6.5 and he’d (most likely) catch up with me.
Kip contacted me wondering about a run after Rene and I had formulated our plan, so I gave him the details and he said he’d accompany us for as much as he could.
We met at 6:30 and set off. Kip peeled off at about 4 miles, and Rene and I kept on. I finally turned around at 6.55 because why not? I originally expected that I’d slow down after I split from Rene, but I actually just maintained the same pace, more or less. Rene didn’t end up catching up with me. I was going to wait for him back where we parked, but when I turned on my car to keep warm I noticed that I should just get going, so I did.
Of note. Big bad GPS glitch here, I noticed right away when all the sudden the split for my 10th mile showed as 5:30something. I was immediately crestfallen because I was on pace to “PR” a 13.1 distance (I still did) and almost break 2 hours (just missed it).
But thanks to the GPS glitch now all my various PRs are junk. I need to figure out how to not count these.
Later on I got to my taekwondo class with the family, got in a pretty good workout:
... and finally picked up my new belt.
Last tempo run is done! I think my pace was around the same as my last one. Not counting 800ish metres of warm-up, my splits were all between 4:30 and 4:38 per kilometre, except for the second last which was 4:48. Don’t really know what happened there, but I sped up again for the last kilometre. This was really hard, both physically and mentally, and I am super glad to be done with it. After a crazy amount of walking, running, and standing over the weekend my legs were so tired, and mentally I was just done. But I got through it, held my goal pace even though I didn't feel like it, and now it’s officially time to taper!
Two miles yesterday, 5K today. The weather is slowly, slowly (oh so slowly) turning summerish...
