“Head nurse, why are you anti rq?”
A bit of a fun fact, but I’m attending classes to become an educator.
I owe it to my future students that I am a safe space from predators.
I owe it to my future students that I will not condone racist stereotypes in the classroom.
I owe it to my future students that their disabilities are not to be taken as a joke, because I am disabled myself.
I owe it to my future students, and their parents, that I will uphold any protections for the age of consent. That they will be kept under the care of someone who wishes to teach, not to harm.
I owe it to my future students who may confide their queerness to me, but may fear being ridiculed for being “beyond the norm” by their peers. To the children who may face whatever their equivalent of “oh so you’re an attack helicopter” insults, to know I will not allow hatred in the classroom.
I’m not just anti radqueer because it hurts me online. I’m anti radqueer because one day, I will be a teacher. And my students deserve to have a professor that will do whatever they can to make their world a better place.
Sincerely,
Head Nurse, Marmelade May
