I was talking to the mom of one of my peers who is also autistic, and she was talking about how he's "lost his diagnosis" as in he no longer meets the diagnostic criteria, and she's so proud of him for that. I was professionally diagnosed at 16, but she was saying that I probably don't actually meet criteria now either because I'm High Functioning. I mean she's also an anti vaxxer so I should probably take it with a grain of salt but like I feel Not Valid đ
YeahâŠno. Odds are her son was never actually autistic to begin with, or sheâs completely talking our of her rear. You canât just âlose your diagnosisâ like that unless the diagnosis was already incorrect, and the fact that sheâs using functioning labels and is an anti-vaxxer sounds like sheâs not to be trusted on what sheâs talking about anyway. Heck...some would consider me âhigh-functioningâ (as much as I loathe functioning labels myself), but I am definitely autistic, thank you very much.
In shortâŠdonât listen to her BS. As far as weâre concerned, youâre valid.
