Shelter
Aloy held two rabbit-on-a-stick into the roaring flames. Kotallo's seasoning, and the way he had taught her to dress the animals, really made for delicious campfire meals.
The mouthwatering smells of dripping juices and charring meat soon wafted through the air.
"Where did you put the berries?" Kotallo asked, searching the pouches scattered on the workbench.
"Oh!" Aloy turned, and jerked her head towards the stash where she had dumped her gear. "Over there. In my pack."
"Ah. There they are," he announced, placed the pouch full of succulent berries beside her, went to fetch their water skins, and sat down next to her.
"I'm starving," Aloy groaned, handing one stick to Kotallo.
"Me, too," he said, turning the meat this way and that in the flames. "Not much longer. The char needs to be a bit darker."
"Is there still some bread?" she asked.
"Yeah, on the workbench. I'll get it," he offered, and made to rise, but Aloy was quicker, jumped up and retrieved the last pieces of mountain trail bread.
“This’ll be so good,” Aloy moaned, licking her lips.
Kotallo looked at her adoringly. “Agreed.”
Aloy smiled, then leaned over and pecked a quick kiss on his soft lips. “As always.”
“Mmm,” he replied with a tiny smile and returned the kiss.
