Fans. Love. The Doctor. Not just ‘the Doctor’ in general. We love the version of the Doctor they are right now. We love the person they are with this particular face and personality.
Most people don’t appreciate losing a loved one, even just a fictional character, without warning, for shock value and spectacle and fucking online engagement.
Doctor Who is a comfort show and a life companion and a thing that gets you through bad days and months and years.
