Sovereign had been defeated, and normally, Shepard would go on shore leave to drink with her fellow soldiers and talk about all of the shit that they went through - sheâd even promised Kaidan and Ashley to do just that with them, to finally get to know these two as more than just glorified henchmen - but she just couldnât leave the Normandy behind just yet.Â
And this wasnât even some sentimentality to the ship itself, no. It was one of its occupants.Â
Dr. Liara TâSoni.Â
On one of the many planets they encountered during their mission to decimate the Geth outposts in the Galaxy, they had come across one of these old datapads, and Liara, being an archaeologist and such, really wanted them to look for the rest of the writings. It broke Shepardâs heart to tell her that this really wasnât a priority at that time but she promised they would look for them once all of this was over.Â
And Shepard was a person who didnât make promises like that on a whim.Â
Long story short, looking for the Asari writings turned into looking for those Prothean data discs as well, and then Hackett called and asked - since Shepard had time and since she claimed their really nice new ship for herself - if they could look for a couple mining deposits on those planets.Â
Shepard knew that this wasnât really about mining and more about keeping her busy, holding her off until they figured out what to do with their new super soldier turned Spectre. Anderson let it slip that there were some kind of negotiations going on.Â
She didnât really care. The Alliance put her wherever they wanted anyway. She had a new goal as well.Â
A new goal and a new girl.Â
She really didnât try to act like an overly horny teenager, but Liara TâSoni made her want to rip open a couch like an untrained dog sometimes.Â
And she tried to be nonchalant. She was nonchalant. People in the Alliance, mostly men, hit on her all the time because they had this little fantasy about taming her, about getting to her.Â
And maybe knocking her up, too. Sheâd seen it a bunch of times.Â
She advised Ashley not to let some grunt knock her up either one time and Ashley had looked at her a little bit confused, almost as if it finally sunk in that the woman in front of her actually was a real woman who had sex and interacted with other people.Â
Did she think Shepard just manifested the day of the Normandy shakedown run with no life prior to this?Â
But really, this wasnât important. None of this was important.Â
She was just trying to distract herself until Liara was done deciphering those Prothean data discs.Â
She sat down on the bed in her cabin - their cabin, really -Â because Liara shyly told her that her pacing was distracting, and to show Liara that enforcing boundaries was a good thing, Shepard sat down immediately.Â
She watched Liara sit on the terminal that was originally meant for Anderson and his work emails, running this program that she had come up with during her final year at university to help with deciphering the Prothean language.Â
After the first Prothean disk that they had found, Liara excitedly told Shepard about the process of deciphering and translating a different language and showed her writings of Asari and their first contacts with other species, including humans. Liara had admitted that she never had been interested in human languages, since she thought they were too simple, too juvenile in the grander scheme of things. She then quickly apologized and promised to look into it now because surely their history was just as rich and their language just as complicated as the rest of them.Â
Shepard was a little defensive when it came to human culture, especially in front of the Asari. She had been part of the Valkyrie Program a couple of years back, right before they recommended her for the N7 Villa, so she already knew a lot of the Asari thought humans were beneath them. She couldnât really fault them for that, but where she drew the line was when language began to be involved.
Two of them would sometimes pretend that the translator was not picking up Shepardâs accent. Or that her âslurringâ was giving them faulty translations. There was no âslurringâ. Shepard had just grown up in the Appalachian mountains, living in an abandoned Alliance funded mining town with the rest of the Reds. As much as Earth had changed over the years, they never dared touching the Appalachian mountains or the Rockies. Only dug deeper in the mines they already had, looking for more deposits to synthesise new elements, for bigger and better ships. Rebuilt these old mining towns with those prefab houses they also slapped all over the colonies. Drilled until they couldnât anymore and then abandoned them - the towns and their miners. Couple of them got some good deals to continue mining off world, but a lot of them stayed. Shepard wasnât the daughter of miners, but she had lived with them for the longest time and grown to respect them. She had also grown to love the culture and she happened to be proud of her accent.Â
So, yes, maybe she did punch one of them. To prove a point.Â
She still remembered Andersonâs face when she said âThey started itâ.Â
Liara still got a pass for acting a little snooty about humanity. So, no lectures for her. For now. Since this was a new relationship.Â
Sitting on the bed, she felt reminded of that night before Ilos again. And the night after that. And after that. And yesterday. And this morning, too.Â
It was a bit ludicrous and maybe they were acting like horny teenagers, but Shepard didnât care and neither did Liara.Â
Shepard looked at Liaraâs face, at those beautifully soft features on her. The way that Liara scrunched up her face when she was really focused on something, the tip of her slightly purple tongue sticking out between those pearly white teeth.Â
Her gaze followed the shape of her crest. From the front, it often appeared like a perfectly slicked back hairstyle, but from the side, from this angle and with the soft, glowing cabin lights, Shepard was convinced it looked like one of those halos that Catholic saints were often depicted with over a thousand years ago.Â
She traced the outline of her neck with her eyes, stopping at her jawline, back up to her lips, letting out a sigh against her will.Â
Liara looked over to her.Â
âAre you alright?â, she asked softly.Â
âI am. Come over hereâ, Shepard gently coaxed and Liara looked back at the monitor.Â
âB-but the deciphering⌠I-â
âWhatever that was saying couldnât have been that important since nobody really missed it for thousands of years, right?â
Liara looked at her, a little appalled.Â
âThat is not how this works, I ca-â
âLiaraâ, Jane repeated coyly.Â
âWhat? Why are you- Oh!â, realization struck her and she giggled.Â
âBut, Commander Shepard, I am but a poor scientist and my research is all I have!â, she then said, playing up the innocence in her voice as she rose from their chair and walked over to her.
âDonât you worry now, darlinâ, Iâm gonna take good care of youâ, Jane said, playing up her own accent a little and wiggled her eyebrows after tipping an imaginary hat.Â
Liara laughed again as she walked over to her, gently sitting down on her lap and putting her slightly rough hands on Janeâs face.Â
âWhat did you do there?â, Liara asked.Â
âI tipped my hat at you. A pretend hatâ, she said and laughed at herself.Â
âYou humans are strangeâ, Liara then said, playing with one of those stray strands of hair on Shepardâs forehead.Â
âStrangely charming, you mean.â
âNo, just strange. This one in particularâ, Liara then said, poking Shepard's shoulder.Â
âHmm, do you wanna study me after all?â, she purred.Â
âI already told you, I donât specialize in living beings.â
âWell, when I die, Iâm giving you full control of my body. You can taxidermy me and put me in your apartment, I donât careâ, Jane said, chasing that feeling of Liaraâs hands on her skin, using her own free hands to peel that scientist uniform off of her.
âCan I get that written down by you with your signature? That usually looks better in research papersâ, Liara said, breathlessly as Jane finally got enough neck freed to start pressing hungry kisses on it.Â
âHm, sureâ, she mumbled, taking in the smell and that wonderful feeling of her slightly scaly skin on her lips. She hummed contently and continued her attempts to get Liara naked again.Â
Out of habit, Shepardâs lips roamed up, attempting to bite an earlobe but remembering the difference in anatomy of her new girlfriend, instead opting to gently grab Liaraâs neck and dragged her teeth cross one of those finer, softer growths on Liaraâs head, prompting her to moan loudly.Â
Jane ground up her hips, meeting Liaraâs thighs and finally getting that friction sheâd been chasing ever since Liara sat on her lap.Â
She finally freed Liara from her uniform enough to expose her breasts. Jane pressed soft and slow kisses down Liaraâs jawline, her neck, her collarbone, once again taking in the feeling of Liaraâs skin on her lips.Â
âYouâre like a mermaidâ, Jane murmured as she held onto the small of her back to keep her steady as she finally turned her attention to Liaraâs boobs.Â
âAm I?â, Liara said breathlessly, her head rolling back as Jane took one of her nipples between her lips. Liara wouldâve reacted the same way if Shepard had told her she looked like a cheese wheel, too, as her mind was already spinning, all her nerves buzzing, the very atoms of her body reaching out to Shepard in anticipation of that pleasure Liara had come to love, to chase even. How juvenile it was to chase these physical pleasures like that, Liara thought once. She was above this, she thought once.Â
Now, she hardly thought at all. There was just Shepard.Â
âMhm.â
Jane ground her hips up again, finding the apex of Liaraâs thighs and letting out an almost animalistic grunt as she roughly grabbed her thighs, pulling them further down into her lap.Â
âL-Let me know if I-â, Liara brought out, cradling Janeâs head.Â
âNo, not yet, I need to-â, she interrupted herself with a frustrated sigh, before grabbing Liaraâs hips, rolling them both over onto the bed.Â
Liara landed softly in the cushions, her crest bending a little as she laid down. Shepard didnât pay it any mind, not since Liara had explained that they were at least semi flexible.Â
Instead, Jane began to unbutton Liaraâs pants. The soft, luxurious fabric slid over her thighs with no resistance, almost like water sliding off of someone emerging from a lake.Â
Have I ever been so obsessed with someone before?, Shepard caught herself thinking.Â
She bent down to kiss Liara again, and Liara took the opportunity to finally work on getting Jane out of her clothes as well, sliding the rough fabric of that jumpsuit she wore under her armor over her shoulder, before working on getting her bra off.Â
Jane rubbed her cheek on Liaraâs before kissing down her neck again, her hands roaming all over Liaraâs body, taking in the feeling of her once more.Â
Her knees almost gave in when she felt Liaraâs naked thighs around her hips, pulling her in even further. She wondered if Liara enjoyed the feeling of Shepardâs skin on hers just as much.Â
Jane raked her fingers along the side of Liaraâs thigh and looked up, trying to meet her eyes.Â
âDr. TâSoni, Iâm about to do something selfishâ, Shepard warned her breathlessly, pulling Liaraâs leg up and hungrily kissing the inside of her thigh.Â
Liara let out a moan, bit her lip and nodded eagerly.Â
âIâm yoursâ, she said, and Shepard shivered against her will.Â
She mustâve left that famous nonchalance of hers in her other jumpsuit.Â
Jane gently put Liaraâs leg down and shifted, positioning herself right on top of Liaraâs upper thigh. She leaned over to Liara again, kissing the tip of her nose, her lips, her neck over and over again, while slowly grinding against Liaraâs thigh, finally finding that friction sheâd been searching for.Â
She ignored any thoughts about how pathetic it was that she was basically dry humping her like a teenager and instead let herself revel in the feeling of Liaraâs scaly thigh on her wet, needy skin.Â
The feeling sent shivers down her spine and Shepard couldnât help the desperate, lustful moans escaping her mouth. If she had allowed Liara to meld with her right then and there, she would know how much those exact sounds spurred Liara on and how much she enjoyed that desperate grinding she did on her thigh.Â
It had taken Liara a while to figure this out - or more likely, to let herself acknowledge that those thoughts werenât just hopeful delusions - but Shepard wanted her. Really wanted her. And despite having felt very above the simple indulgence of rolling around in the sheets with someone, Liara loved how much Shepard wanted her. How that stoic facade broke whenever they were alone, replaced by that feverish shimmer of lust and adoration. It made Liara feel less stupid, less silly in that little crush she had on the person who saved her. It made them feel⌠equal.Â
Liaraâs mind was spinning, thinking about how she might be considered equal to Shepard, maybe not out there, in the world, the galaxy, but right there, just with the two of them. How Liara made Shepard drop the soldier attitude.Â
Liara liked to think that this was just for her.Â
She just wished she wasnât so useless in bed sometimes. But then, on the other hand, she liked when Shepard put her wherever she wanted. There was gentleness, adoration in the way Shepard put her on the mattress, the way she adjusted her body, her hands, her legs. Rough, but firm, not in a violent way, but in the way someone would shape clay or work marble.Â
What a privilege it was to receive this attention from Shepard.Â
As if they were actually of one mind, Jane grabbed Liaraâs hands and put them on her hips.Â
âI⌠Iâll make it up to youâ, Shepard whimpered.Â
âDonât worry about itâ, Liara whispered, moving one hand to cradle the back of Janeâs head.Â
Shepard cursed under her breath and Liara felt her shiver.Â
âIs everythingâŚâ
âYeah, no⌠That⌠Thatâs goodâ, Shepard brought out again.Â
âYou lower your voice when you flirt⌠Itâs⌠Itâs cuteâ, she added, her breath growing more erratic.Â
âNoted, Commanderâ, Liara said in that same tone again and Shepard shivered once more, goosebumps breaking out on her skin.Â
Liara went to university. She was nothing but an eager student and a fast learner.Â
Their lips met again and Shepard managed to steady herself enough to find her pace again.Â
âFlex your thigh for me, pleaseâ, she whispered between hungry kisses and Liara considered flexing her left one for a moment, just to tease Shepard, but she didnât know how much she was willing to push her today.Â
Maybe another day.Â
Shepard moaned and moved her hands around Liaraâs neck, pulling them both back into a sitting position. Liaraâs hands moved around Shepardâs hips again, now copying her moves from earlier and gently biting Shepardâs collarbone and sucking on her neck, before dipping down to kiss Shepardâs breasts.Â
Her movements got faster again, spurred on by Liaraâs hands and lips on her and all she could think about was that wonderfully subtle friction Liaraâs skin provided for her. If she could do nothing else for the rest of her life, she would stay here, just like that, with Liara and no one else.Â
Liara felt brave today, equally as spurred on by Shepardâs movements and actions, always perfectly mirroring each other, and she moved her hands down, following the curve of Shepardâs ass before gently grabbing it.Â
Another moan, more hungry kisses as Shepardâs movement grew more and more erratic, halting, seeking that release. Liaraâs hands on her bare skin, those smooth, warm scales like mother of pearl left in the sun, the ever-so-slight ridges that added so much texture to her body - all of it combined into heady, overwhelming pleasure. There was nothing in this room - in this world - beyond Liara.
She brought herself to completion there, with nothing but Liaraâs thigh and her soft, coaxing voice assuring her she was doing so well. The climax rushed her system, electrifying her all at once before leaving her shuddering against Liaraâs chest, steadied by her gentle embrace.
She felt warm, velvet lips brush her forehead, pressing a lingering kiss. When she finally opened her eyes, she looked up and met Liaraâs, that vibrant blue, and they smiled at the same time.
âI do mean itâ, Shepard managed, still breathing hard. âIâll pay you back.â

Summary:
The consequences of setting her crew loose on her apartment come back to haunt Shepard.
âGood morning,â Liara says as Shepard kisses along her shoulder.Â
Shepard could wake up to this for the rest of her life. She lets that thought unravel before it sours her mood with reminders of how short that might be. She noses up to Liaraâs jaw.
âSleep well?â Liara reaches down to stroke Shepardâs hand on her hip.
âYes,â she answers, âand I think Iâll take this chance to try your hot tub.â
Shepard watches her go, smiling sleepily.
She almost goes back to sleep.
Memories of Zaeed flash in her head.
âLiara!â Shepard yells, falling out of her bed.
