Turns out i actually enjoy drawing robots, well this one anyway! - I remember watching an episode of Amphibia where we got introduced to this character called cloak bot and i loved the design of it so much that i actually ran outside with my sketchbook and tools and drew it in the space of a day and i'm actually really proud of how the drawing came out, now if only i can harness that power again every time i draw ihfreduvcg.
Fun fact: This giant carrier Frobot is probably a reference to the real-life Suriname Toad, whose babies are born from its back!
(I’d advise caution searching up images of the Suriname Toad for those with trypophobia!)
Hence the frobots being tadpole-themed and launched from the back... Really appreciate this neat attention to detail, and it’s always fun seeing what weird little frog quirks or details are references to real-life amphibians!
Also these designs are just... A lot of fun, and I didn’t expect to see so much more variety for the Frobots- But I love enemy variety, so I gladly welcome this! Amphibia has pretty rad designs in general and it shows here... Makes me wonder if we’ll see more frobots based on other strange amphibians!
But yeah... Love this absolute unit of a Sumo Wrestler frobot, and the introduction of different and vibrant colors to help differentiate frobots is unexpected but welcome! Coming from someone playing Metroid Dread, I’m getting EMMI vibes from these frobos, weirdly enough, but I’m not complaining! This has been a wonderful surprise so far!
(Let’s appreciate this bonus turtle-mode.)
Why does no one ever point out this parallel between The First Temple and True Colors?
I know the frobos are probably inspired by the Guardians from Breath of the Wild, but coming fresh from a Metroid Dread speedrun, and I can’t help but get EMMI vibes from this frobot in particular;
Stupid intelligent killer robots with uncanny articulation that serve an old conqueror who wants to return his civilization to its warring past.

Random thought, but what if it’s called ‘the Night’ in the prophecy because when the frobots arrive, they’ll swarm in such numbers in the sky that they’ll block out the sun?
In fact, maybe the monster frog from the mural isn’t literal; Maybe it’s just a giant mech that Darcy pilots... Maybe it’s even a shape that this swarm of frobots takes as it consumes the sun. There’s already plenty of bug motifs with Amphibia and the frobots... And the Core is a hive mind, an insect-related trope; We could get some Ten Plagues of Egypt vibes here, except it’s the stubborn king inflicting the calamity here. Of course, now I’m getting the humorous image of a giant frog just eating these bugs out of the sky with its huge tongue; So maybe the mural frog is actually a hero, a Sprig or Hop Pop transformed by the Calamity Gems...
...Actually that last bit, while at first a joke, has me thinking; What if Hop Pop is transformed into a legendary frog creature on the same level as the Mother of Olms, maybe even acting as a father counterpart to her, given his own in-universe status as a patriarch. Maybe he’s willingly possessed by the spirit of the Mother’s deceased husband, as a parallel/foil to Marcy being taken over by the Core; And the transformation takes such a toll that after the battle, he dies, fulfilling a sacrifice that hearkens back to his survivor’s guilt over not being there when the herons attacked?
UM HELP
I’m currently listening to TJ Hill’s Fort in the Road score and the generic frobots themselves have a theme! And it comes back in Turning Point!
