hi,I have a problem within myself and my relationship to the fandom. Hope you can enlighten me. I don't want to feel alone on this one but who's been a nightmare before christmas fan since the 90's ? Yeah I'm a fan of a movie since I was 5 years old (1999) And before I felt alone to be the only one in my french town to know it actually existed. But now I feel alone because the fandom has grew (I still view it possitivally don't worry ^^) but I can't seem to connect with other fans of the movie.
Hello! I read your other post where you went more into detail about this, and I was interested to see you come to me to express these feelings.
Iâve actually heard of someone else who was in a case similar to yours. They made a post enlightening younger TNBC fans on what it was like to be a long-time fan of the film, particularly from the â90â˛s. They highlighted how unpopular Nightmare initially was and that connecting with anyone about it at the time was difficult, until it suddenly grew in popularity and is now a sort of internet sensation. Iâm unsure if they felt as disconnected as you did, but the fact still remains that there are adult fans of the film who exist today, only they have the knowledge that the fanbase was nowhere near as prominent as it is today.
If possible, I would suggest trying to reach out to try and find other long-time fans. Simply making a âreblog this if youâve been a Nightmare fan since the â90â˛sâ seems simple, and might lead you to start conversations with others like you about the film. I understand how disconnected someone can feel with more of the ânewerâ fans because they canât relate to the struggles and loneliness the older fans went through. TNBC didnât start off as a huge, beloved film as it is now, and there are plenty out there who just donât know that.
I would also maybe suggest joining some TNBC Discord servers, or interacting with some of the people behind TNBC blogs? There are lots of friendly and approachable people in the fandom, I do encourage not being intimidated by the âbiggerâ blogs. Theyâre people, too, who enjoy the same thing as you, and who knows? They might be long-time fans of the movie as well! All it takes is some reaching out and maybe producing some content of your own if you can - thatâs usually how you can get some ground in a fandom. Bring and show what you can, and if youâre not a content creator, then just talking about the movie will do it. I know bigger fanbases seem intimidating on the surface, but if you meet the right people in the right place, then youâll have a good time, I assure you.
I, unfortunately, am not part of the older portion of the fandom. Iâm actually very young. Iâve just sort of â well â informed myself a lot about the movie and became a little obsessed. But Iâd be more than happy to speak more with the older fans, and learn what it was like to love this movie when it first came out. As you probably know, I love to talk about this movie, share ideas/theories/headcanons, and show lots of things for it. Iâd be more than happy to reach out to find some older fans for you if youâd like, or invite you to the TNBC Discord Iâm in?
I wish you luck if you do choose to connect more with the fandom, but again, I encourage not to be intimidated or give up. There are friendly people here who are more than happy to still talk about the film, and I know youâre not alone because Iâve seen other people who feel the same as you. I encourage you reach out where itâs possible.
