Just like how everyone in that Glee Club was queer, everyone in that Glee Club was kinda batshit. Mercedes Jones when trying to figure out if she should have sex with her boyfriend was not content with talking to friends or some inner contemplation; she put on a little red number and brought Sam to her church so he could sit in the pews the lone white boy while she and the congregation and choir asked Jesus if she could smash in a God-honouring way
i do really love this as the start of samcedes and i wish we’d gotten to see a genuine relationship arc and build uppppp ugh.
i do also like that the show doesn’t do that thing of “oh she’s a plus size girl but he likes her Anyway” (like they do with puck x lauren tbh). and to the best of my memory the show is generally pretty good about that? not really anything Else re: this relationship, by the end, but on this front at least.
like sam genuinely finds her beautiful. it’s not an exception or something he’s just Tolerating. he outright rejected rachel, and while i think he was lying to cover up financial issues about her not being his Type (don’t really think he has one), i also don’t think he’s attracted to her.
it’s just very very refreshing to see mercedes being treated like the desirable and lovely person she is <333
