Story:

He loved her since they met as young apprentices at a gathering. He was nervous and she, a couple moons older, was welcoming. Together, they poked fun at the older, grumpy warriors.

Now, both of them warriors themselves, he knew that Foxflame wanted to join him in Riverclan, to be at his side as his mate. But the leader would never accept her.

Not unless he had reason. Like, say, a need to accept another cat into the Clan, even if they were from an enemy’s. 

So he did it for her. One warrior, then another, then another, until finally Troutstar announced that their dwindling numbers were becoming more than troubling. And when Wavefur told him that he knew a trusted warrior who would gladly join them, he was given permission to ask her.

But Foxflame was still nervous. She was worried her Clan would be mad at her. That’s why she denied loving--or even caring about Wavefur. 

He didn’t blame her.

He knew it was an act.

She just needed a little push. Her Clan needed to be told of where her heart truly lies, and if she wasn’t going to do it herself, well....

He pretended to be passing a message from Troutstar, and when he was brought into the camp, apprised them all of Foxflame’s dilemma. They were angry, of course, but what was really frustrating was Foxflame’s continuing to deny her love for him. 

She had shouted at him to leave her alone, to ‘stalk’ one of his own Clanmates. Couldn’t she see that he was doing it for her? Ungrateful!

But maybe he shouldn’t have ambushed her like that, in front of them all. He should talk to her again, alone.

He waited by the border until she showed, but she was still angry. She demanded he leave her alone, to stop ruining the happy life she claims to have in Shadowclan.

He responded by telling her the murders he committed for her, and in a shocked and enraged response, she hissed for him to get it through his ‘thick skull’ that she never wanted anything to do with him.

She shouldn’t have been so harsh. Then he wouldn’t have attacked her.

He was standing over her body, wailing over what he had done, when the rest of her patrol tackled him to the ground.
