I'm having thoughts of Adrien being akumatized as Volpina's replacement, except his lies are mich more believable, much more thorough.
Lila as Volpina made illusions of missiles coming at heroes out of nowhere, but if it was Adrien's dramatic ass, you better believe there would be fighter jets of some super-duper secret and evil organisation like in Bolt movie who's goal would be to get the miraculous before Hawkmoth.
Suddenly Volperouge is not suspicious, but a another holder that arrived at lucky time.
He could be found out if Hawkmoth makes him get Ladybug to surrender her miraculous like Lila did, but here it could also be much better. Volperouge holds Adrien Agreste (illusion) hostage because he's dear to Ladybug. He demands her miraculous for his life, but when someone points out that it could be an illusion, he drops him.
Ladybug jumps to save him in fear, but when she touches Adrien, he dissapears cause he's a fake, the real one is still on top with the akuma.
When she says that he's bluffing and would never threaten real Adrien, he dangles "real" Adrien right above her by the leg, which is when she's hit by the stuff falling from his pockets: his phone, some change, a wallet, and most importantly her lucky charm.
Suddenly when Volperouge start to let go one finger at a time she's not so brave anymore and the Ladybug miraculous is almost taken, but heroes some-fucking-how save the day yet again.
This would make for AMAZING "Prepare for the trouble! And make it double!!" situation when like on Heroes Day every akuma victim is akumatized again and it's Volperouge and Volpina outright bending the reality with their illusionary powers.
Maybe instead of focusing on Ladybug and other holders, they go straight for Marinette to torment her by letting her think they might know she's Ladybug when in reality they absolutely DO know she's Polka-dotted Bug Hero.
So she's desperately trying to prove to these super-powered villains that she's not in fact the Saviour of Paris and them looking at eachother with "Is she for real rn?"

Adrien transforms for the first time. It's freeing. He's.. he's Kitsune. Scarabella leads him to where Mao is kicking her legs, spinning her baton with one hand. He absentmindedly copies her with his flute, and she laughs when she sees him doing so.
They work through beating the Akuma, and shes just thinking "is this what Adrien would be like without his dad?" (Because they're really close friends in this au, as they're 100000% platonic since it's an alyanette and adrino au, I'm not being sarcastic they're just best friends) And he notices how she tenses alot and she's not all that carefree (in this au marinette has her guard up around new people because of years and years of bullying. Mostly from Kim in this au, Chloe doesn't pick on her specifically or that much so she gets a redemption arc pretty early)
He puns. "For fox sake, this is a complicated plan."
She stares at him. Absolutely blank. "What the fuck"
He teaches her allll the jokes he can think of, and sniffles like a proud parent when she starts thinking of her own. She starts joking more, and it warms Scarabellas heart to see her "friend" become more sociable to more people than just her (she HATED other people as Mao, going so far as to hiss at paparazzi)
They become best friends inside and outside the mask.
This story is a sequel to my Marinette March, Adrinette April, and Marichat May stories; I highly recommend reading those first.

For a moment, Renard didnāt know what to say.
Had this been in his own world, there wouldāve been lots of things he could offer Coccinelle. His games consoles, his cell phone, his computer, even his very expensive collection of Gabriel clothing ā though honestly, the latter probably wasnāt going to be worth much for long once word of Gabriel being Hawkmoth got out. Heck, he could even offer her money.
But right now, his pockets were pretty empty. It was unlikely Coccinelle would be impressed by the handful of euros he had. Offering her his cell phone would be useless because it couldnāt connect to anything here. The only other thing he had on him was the Fox miraculous, and he definitely wasnāt going to give that up!
He stared at her helplessly. Coccinelle just watched him with an expectant expression.
Trixx would probably try to fool her. Promise her something lavish, get the Black Cat miraculous, and then refuse to follow through. While there was merit to that, Renard could see how that could easily backfire.
If Plagg was hereā¦
Well, Renard could practically hear the kwami now.
āDonāt be stupid! If she was smart she would accept cheese as a payment, but appallingly few people are smart enough for that. So focus. Sheās a person, not an akuma! Adrien, you got her attention. Keep it.
Renard took a deep breath and nodded to himself. Cheese was out the window, because he was sure that Coccinelle would think he was insane if he offered her a wheel of camembert right now, but attention?
That was something he could handle.
āA story,ā Renard said at last, because he thought that the Plagg in his head was right. If Coccinelle didnāt care, she wouldnāt have sat there for at least two minutes in silence while Renard struggled to come up with something to say. The fact that she had stuck around and had given him her undivided attention during the wait suggested that she was curious. He could use that.
āA story?ā Coccinelle echoed, raising her eyebrows.
āArenāt you at all curious as to why Iām standing here with the Fox miraculous?ā Renard asked, gesturing to himself. āEspecially since your own Fox miraculous hasnāt gone missing.ā
āYou might be using a different Fox miraculous. There are multiple miraculous, and some are duplicates between the boxes,ā said Coccinelle, yet he could see the instant when her eyes fastened on to his pendant and she realized that it was identical to her Fox miraculous.
Because Renard was sure that while there could be more than one Fox miraculous out there, no two would look exactly the same.
āYou could have stolen it,ā Coccinelle said, though she didnāt seem very alarmed by that.
āI suppose I could have,ā Renard agreed. āSo how about this? You go check on your Fox miraculous. And when you see that itās still there even though I have mine, you come meet me. Tonight. In a place thatās a little more private.ā
He glanced down at the ground for the first time in a little while. Though it was harder to make out any fine details from this distance, he could still see all the faces turned up towards them. And it looked like more people had come around since the last time he had looked. Word must have been spreading, he realized, and people from the surrounding areas were coming to check things out.
āAlright,ā Coccinelle said, drawing Renardās attention back to her. āYouāve got yourself a deal. Where do you want to meet?ā
Renard thought quickly and said, āThe roof of the Dupain bakery.ā He had been about to suggest the roof of CollĆØge FranƧoise Dupont until he remembered he didnāt know if the school existed here ā or if it did, where it was. The bakery was the only place aside from the tower he was familiar with.
āFine with me,ā said Coccinelle. āMidnight?ā
āYes,ā Renard said. By that point, the bakery would be closed so they wouldnāt have to worry about customers seeing them.
āOkay,ā she said, and then she leaned back against the beam, flipped her sunglasses back down onto her nose, and picked up her magazine again.
Renard stood there awkwardly for another few seconds before it dawned on him that Coccinelle considered their conversation over ā which, he supposed, it was. He turned away from her and leapt off the beam, hearing the renewed cries from the people below. Rather than land on the ground and risk being mobbed, he aimed for the nearest roof.
Iāve seen it done before where circumstances result in a different pair of heroes in Origins, but Iāve yet to see it fully expanded on just how wide-ranging the effects would be.
Imagine we have Alya and Nino get the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous.
For one, it would be better on principle because of the idea behind this change is that the perspective and focus would ultimately be more spread out among the characters rather than central on two. This is in part because neither Alya or Nino would have the direct tie to the central plot other than by being chosen as the heroes. This means no tie to the villain or to the guardian.
Furthermore, there would be much different dynamicsānot only with each other, but with their families and civilian lives. Marinette and Adrien had it easy in a sense as each of them was an only child. Compare that with Nino, who has a younger brother and Alya, who has two younger sisters to watch out for as well as one older one who is rather dead-set on protecting her from the akumas she has to go out and fight.
On the plus side, this means Nino wouldnāt need Marinetteās help to beat Nora at arm wrestling. On the other plus side, Nora would strike me as the type to catch on to Alyaās secret and try to help herā¦through training her to fight.
Alya: I can never use my arms again!
On the same note, this means very different positions for Alya and Nino as the Ladybug and Black Cat.
Alya was shown to be very big on the idea of superheroes in Origins, so she would be pretty psyched about being one, in a manner rather similar to Adrien. Sheād have to learn that the life of a superhero is actually much more difficult than expected with secrets and juggling responsibilitiesāsomething she may āknowā about from comics, but not something she would understand until she actually has to live itāmuch like in Sapotis where she initially said sheād tell Marinette her identity at the start of the episode only to back out of doing so by the end.
Sheās also pretty reckless in canon, meaning that any instances of Chat!Nino rescuing her would be more of a response to her not fully thinking things through than him needlessly jumping in the way. This would allow for more growth potential for Alya as she is forced to take a serious look at her actions and possible consequences.
There would also be more difficulty with the Lucky Charm. Alya isnāt shown to be one for thinking things through, and that is something the Ladybug position would require and force her to do. This ultimately forces Alya to slow down and consider things before actingāboth in regards to jumping to conclusions, but also in leaping before she looks. Thereās also the bonus that this would result in Chat!Nino being able to step in to help direct her at points and allow him more of a role and say in battles.
On the other end, Nino is shown to be laid back in canon, but he is shown to be pretty good at thinking on his feet and planning things out. Even as an akuma, it took quite a bit of planning and set up to arrange Adrienās birthday party. Thereās also the other party from Party Crasher where Nino plotted out everything from what excuses to give the girls to how to get into the mansion. Sure, it was a horrible plan for various reasons, but it was a well plotted out one. His level of planning actually seemed to be about on par with Marinette though without the universe as a whole working against him most of the time.
Nino would admittedly do well with the Ladybug Miraculous. Heās smart, heās a quick thinker, and heās good at planning. But heās not quite so good with leadership. We saw during Horrificator how he was actingāchanging the script without telling everyone or consulting Alya when it was HER script, being harsh on Mylene, replacing her too quickly without considering her feelings. These were things the show didnāt call him out for, but they were still issues that should have been noted and addressed.
Nino is noted to be more of a follower, perhaps even codependent to a degree. In two separate instances, he pretty much gave up once Alya was down even though he could have continued and helped the heroes turn things around. First during Zombizou when Alya was kissed by the zombies in the elevator, he chose to stay behind with her and let himself be kissed once she was converted. It was sweet, sure, but there was no real reason for that if he knew Ladybug could restore things and that he could help her do so and save Alya. The second time was during Heroes Day when Alya was hit by the hate arrow and akumatized, he was so dismayed by it that he let himself be taken down as well. Ignoring again that this wasnāt the end and there was something he could do. Furthermore, whatever decisions he made or sides he chose to take seemed mostly dependent on other people and what they wanted from him at the time rather than using his own judgement.
A cat should be able to stand and act alone when needed, and thatās something he could gain from the Black Cat miraculous. Not to mention that thereās also the matter of the kwamis and how these pairings would interact.
Of the possible options for human and kwami teams, the most gain and interesting interactions seems to be with Alya and Tikki and with Nino and Plagg. Tikki would be encouraging Alyaās better traits but also helping to rein her in when she jumps to conclusions or acts without thinking. Sheād also push Alya to consider how other people feel. Plagg, on the other hand, is particularly ornery and would be the one encouraging Nino to act rather than sit back, even if the āactsā heās encouraging would be less than particularly noble. Iād also see Plagg having less concerns about acting out and Nino having to act more as the responsible one and trying to keep Plagg in line. Since he doesnāt have to worry about Nino being locked up and isolated the way commonly threatened with Adrien, Plagg would have less reason to need to behave. And since Nino likely couldnāt afford massive amounts of Camembert, heād have less incentive to behave either.
This would also change the dynamic of the love square. Alya would probably consider her partner as a love interest since theyāre both heroes and partners and thatās generally how it goes in the comics. Itās not about putting him on a pedestal, itās about falling into expectations and it would be another aspect of heroism that Alya would need a lesson on. Furthermore, Nino still starts out with the crush on Marinette.
So weād have Alya and Nino juggling their hero duties, school, families, and friendships. But what about those friendships?
Adrien is still the son of the big bad, but he doesnāt know it. Furthermore, he knows nothing about the Miraculous either. Being Chat Noir had no real impact on a number of aspects of his civilian life, so he would still have the initial circumstances of his first day of school, would still be friends with Chloe, would still be accused of putting gum on Marinetteās seat, and would still end up making things right with her by the end of the day. So heās still friends with Nino an is still the center of a lot of peopleās affections: Marinette, Chloe, Lila, and Wayhem.
Without Chat Noir, Adrien wouldnāt have an outlet for all the energy and freedom-seeking, so weād be seeing a more vocal and dare I say rebellious version of Adrien than the one we get in canon. So not only would we have more Adrien and Gabriel interaction and conflict, but that also means Adrien manages to have more free time to hang out with his friends.
Ultimately, when the main duo are allowed to start asking others for help, Adrien would be high on Ninoās list. Nino would give Adrien the fox because of the illusion that Adrien tends to maintain. He knows that Adrien hides himself behind a mask and so would give him a chance to show his true self. The fact that it would be later revealed that Adrien is the son of their arch enemy would hit them pretty hard.Ā Especially if things happen that result in Adrien switching sides to help his father.
Also, since Adrien isnāt Chat, that means he never inspired or got a front row seat to Ladybugās speech and never fell for her. So no love square. That means heās able to explore possible feelings for any of the people interested in him. In particular, Marinette.
Now that sheās brought up, what role does Marinette play in this? Imagine if she gets drawn into the whole thing by accident?
Given Alyaās nature, she strikes me as a proactive heroāto the point where she would be trying to seek out Hawk Moth in her downtime. So she starts going over possible suspects, looking for clues to where the akuma are coming from, what all Hawk Moth would need for his lair, etc. And one of the people on the list is none other than Adrien Agreste.
Think about it! Monsters start attacking only after he first starts showing up. Their class have almost all been turned into akumas by this point. Itās like Hawk Moth is targeting them specifically. And Adrien is never around during an akuma fight (because heās hiding like any sensible person)! And Adrien is one of the few people in class who hasnāt been akumatized! it canāt be coincidence!
So Alya pulls Marinette into her scheme to check out the Agreste mansion for clues. And they would find nothing since as it turns out, Adrien actually is innocent.
Except Nooroo in this version of events isnāt nearly as passive as his canon counterpart. The heroes are struggling and Gabriel is even more of an ass to his son and to Nooroo himself. Needless to say, heās somewhat spiteful and feeling particularly passive aggressive.
So when a random school friend of Adrienās just happens to visit (read: scope out the mansion for clues), Nooroo uses butterfly effectāwhich he IS the master and creator of thank you very muchāto get the Peacock Miraculous into her bag in hopes that she can help in some way. Inform the heroes, get the Miraculous to Fu somehow, help Dusuu, just something more than the Peacock Miraculous staying trapped in the safe where Gabriel can use it.
So Marinette gets home unknowingly carrying a magical item in her bag. Later on, she discovers she now has a strange broach. And an even stranger creature attached.
Marinette: AH! ITāS A GIANT BIRD! A MOUSE! A-A BIRD-MOUSE!
Marinette is still pretty smart. She would figure out at some point that Alya is the Ladybug hero and want to help. But the Miraculous is damage and using it would cause her harm. So Marinette tries to avoid using the Peacock Miraculous while also trying to either find the Guardian or figure out some way to fix the broken magical artifactā¦toā¦some limited success.
Ultimately, Marinette is trying to help in her own way, but with the volatile situation, she tries to avoid transforming unless the heroes really need her to. Unfortunately, given the difficulty Alya and Nino are having as the heroes, as well as the changes with Adrien that are forcing Gabriel to push matters more quickly, Marinette ends up having to transform and help out on several occasions. And as she does, she gets weaker as the damaged Miraculous is taking its toll on her.
So letās review:
We have Ladybug!Alya. Quick to action and struggling with thinking things through, with a Miraculous and kwami that are pushing her to become more of a leader and plan things out.
Black Cat!Nino. A follower and possible codependent, with a Miraculous and kwami that are prone to trouble and pushing him to act.
Fox!Adrien. More rebellious and passive aggressive. With a super villain father and much less inclined to simply sit by and let people hang on him or infringe upon him.
Peacock!Marinette. More shy but less anxious or overwhelmed due to not having the responsibility of Ladybug. Still creative and intelligent, enough to know who at least one of the superheroes is, and by pure happenstance ends up with the Peacock Miraculous.

And here is my Fox!Adrien design. His coloration is based off of the cross fox, very striking and lots of contrast. The arrangement of colors is still kind of tentative, but thatās the gist. See under the cut for some musings.
Do not repost/reupload/edit.
Okay, so besides the flute and illusions being the staple, I built off of that a little bit for Adrien. Playing the flute summons the illusions he wants to conjure, but it also has another use. The contrasting stripes on the body of the flute serve a purpose. He spins the flute like a baton, and as he does it creates a visual effect that can be hypnotic or mesmerizing. He can use this to give enemies pause.
His physical attack is Fox Fire, where he can summon a short burst of flames, either as a distraction or to cause minor to moderate damage. His image of foxes is influenced by a mix of japanese and native american mythology, and therefore his powers/abilities.Ā
Much like he is as Chat Noir, he is quick and agile, able to react fast and adapt to turns in the fight. He is still a huge dork and likes to show boat a bit, but sadly no cat puns. But he has a league of new material here, bird and fox puns galore.
