Monty Oum 💕
A year ago today we lost one of the most beautiful people to ever bless our lives. Today we mourn as a community but we should also celebrate his life, ever achievement he made everything he gave to us and pay respects to his close friends and family. Monty, wherever you are, know you will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything you gave to us and our hearts go out to your loved ones. Rest in peace you amazing man. ~ keep moving forward ~

Today marks the 1 yr anniversary of #montyoum passing. I decided to include one of the drawings someone did the day after monty passed away as well as the photo of someone from RTNY signing the #montyoummemorial wall at RTX last year in this little collage. So today try to put any memorable things from monty on any social media as well as try to stay positive today #formonty 😄
Done with both volumes. Now to get some sleep to watch Vol. 3 premier in a few hrs. Will watch the commentary after. #rwby #ForMonty
In memory of Monty Oum, who lived to be creative, and inspired all who knew his work. We were asked to be creative in his memory, to make new art that would not have existed without him. I hope we can make him proud. Keep Moving Forward.
For Monty
Two years ago, a group of RWBY cosplayers crossed my path while I was grabbing lunch in downtown Vancouver. Amongst them was an awesomely accurate Weiss complete with rapier. I recorded a video of them which I sent to key personnel on RWBY. It had just come out and that you could run into people in the street who had made their own cosplays was awesome to me. The excitement leading up to RWBY's release, the artwork, the cosplay, the fans finding each other, demonstrated what a spell his work had on people's imaginations around the world. A year later, the woman superbly cosplaying as Weiss, Sheena, became his wife.
I have taken a lot of photos of Rooster Teeth over the years and thought about sharing some today in his honour, but as I began to look back and awaken the dormant memories it hurt too much to be reminded. It is a strange feeling to have someone tell you that they appreciate your work, to encourage your work and then see that work used for articles and posts of their passing. If it pleases people to use these works to celebrate his memory, it makes me happy too.
"... so you're familiar with my work?" he asked, the first time I met him, two weeks before the great unveiling of RvB Season 8 at PAX EAST 2010.
"Familiar with it? I can tell you exactly where it was I first saw it! I LOVE IT." I replied. (appropriately, it was a friend's journal on RoosterTeeth.)
He accomplished so much in 33 years. "Use every second you've got." he said. He was proof you didn't need a fancy degree. He taught himself. His example was inspiring and will continue on. He is survived by his wife, siblings and a community which helped raise over $210,000 for medical expenses in three days.
Last November I was in Austin with Keanu and Felix. We were on our way out of the RT offices when there appeared the legend himself. He asked how I was doing, how long I was in town and, always the easygoing guy, said we should go for lunch sometime.
I am deeply, deeply sorry I won't be able to take you up on that, Monty.
"In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you simply do something creative. Use your imagination to make the world a better place in any way that you can."
I'm not sure what or how yet. But I will do something.
Keep moving forward. I love this community for the words you've said today, memories shared, the reminders to keep moving forward, be passionate, we've got each other. Thank you.

For Monty.
I was in class when I got the tweet about Monty. Friday when I found out about the hospitalization I was thoroughly shocked. I was scared yet had a hope that if we as a community banned together, everything would be alright. I was proven wrong. The news from today wrecked me. Although I have never had a conversation with Monty or his family, I feel that I would call him a friend. At RTX this past year I was in the same room with him on several occasions and have watched him grow as an artist. I feel incredibly empty about all of this. I love you Monty. I miss you Monty. Rest in Peace.
